When to try after a miscarriage?

Last Friday, after being a week late I took a HPT and the positive line was very faint, so I was still unsure whether I was pregnant or not. Spoke to my partner on the Saturday morning and we brought several tests- in total we had 5 positive pregnancy tests! The clear blue test said the conception happened between 1-2 weeks which meant I would have been 3-4 weeks pregnant going dates. We were so excited, as we hadn't been using protection for nearly a year and half so thought there were fertility issues. Sadly, Monday afternoon I began bleeding and went to hospital to be told that I'd had a early miscarriage. Today I've stopped bleeding (4 days later). The doctor told me to wait 2 weeks before doing another HPT. But I want to try again asap. How soon after a mc did everyone start trying again? Fertility rates appear to increase after a mc, so don't want to miss my chance.

So sorry to hear about your loss Bambi. For me, I waited until I had stopped bleeding and had got a bfn. Both happened within a day of each other. Best of luck x

I'm going to do a test Monday as that'll be a week since it happened. I'm treating the mc as if it was a period to work out ovulation timings, which would mean that my fertile window opens in 4 days. How has ttc been going for you? X

It is important to get a BFN on a test before TTC again, that usually did not take long to happen for me if I was having an early miscarriage. (Otherwise, you will not know if you test in a couple of weeks whether it is a new pregnancy or you still have some hormones left that are producing a false positive and that can really do your head in).

My hospital had the view that the best thing to do was to wait to TTC until I had one proper period after the miscarriage. This helps them with dating as they date from the first date of your last period, and if you haven't had one they aren't sure when you ovulated etc to calculate it.

I wasn't always an ideal patient and didn't always wait for my first period, if I'm honest, as I was desperate to be pregnant again.

My DS was conceived 2 weeks after a miscarriage. It did make things more tricky as they weren't sure when to schedule in my 12 week scan etc, and I had 'UNSURE OF DATES' in big letters on top of my notes until after the 20 week scan, and to be honest, a couple of HCP's did make slight dicks of themselves labouring the point, but it was the least of my worries to be honest.

I think if you haven't been there its hard to understand just how much you sometimes need to try again.

I conceived six weeks after a mmc at 8 weeks. I did wait for a period, but only because I liked the reassurance that everything was back on track, but I know plenty of people who have conceived a couple of weeks after a miscarriage.

Just make sure you've had a negative hpt first, and be aware that they will probably use the date of your mc as your lmp date if you haven't had a proper period.

I waited until after af but only because that's how long it took to get a bfn. I stopped bleeding after 3 and a half weeks, got a bfn at 4 weeks and got af a few days later. I would've tried sooner if I could have but it's really important you don't start trying until the bleeding has completely stopped to avoid infection. As others have said, waiting until after a bfn will help you not stress about whether it's a new pregnancy. So sorry for your loss and best of luck for the future x

Thank you everyone for you're comments! I've found this forums so helpful considering my hospital didn't give me no other information other than it's very common to have a mc. I stopped bleeding Friday and I'm planning on taking a test tomorrow so hopefully get its a bfn so we can try again. Thank you everyone 😘

Take a look at the ttc after mc thread - it's been a life saver for me.

Sorry to hear this happened to you Bambi

For us last summer, we just waited until I got a BFN which was about 3 weeks after medical management.
I had a MMC at 13 weeks, discovered at the dating scan.

Once I got the BFP I felt really happy & positive, the old pregnancy was done and we could start again.
It gave me such a boost after all the shit we had been through.

Unfortunately nothing at all has happened since starting TTC and we're now on cycle 11 Sad
