Hey all.

Does anybody know if having very light periods affects ability to conceive?

Have only been TTC for a couple of months but have realised my last few periods and have been seriously light. I have my period again at the momenr and its looks like its finished now on the 2nd day and i hardly bled today!

My periods always used to be very normal, at least 5 days so not sure whats happened.
Coincidentally i have also been peeing on ovulation sticks the last two months and have never got a positive.

Just feel like shit as i had a termination a couple of years ago and now im kicking myself that ive perhaps got something wrong with me now and i missed my chance.

I know im probably being silly

Sorry I know this is a really old post but just wondering if anyone here managed to conceive? I am having the same issue just now and hoping that it isn't all doom and gloom!
Thanks me in advance

@rudyroo how long have you been trying and how long have you had light periods? Mine were ok when I had my 2 ds. I then had a mirena coil and now mine are so light, we have used no contraceptive for 9 cycles and nothing has happened. I reckon its because my period is so light, they last a day if I'm lucky?

Hi @Bloodylegoeverywhere ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ glad I'm not the only one! We've been TTC for 8 months. Came off the pill after 10+ years 8 months ago too. I always had very light flow then too, for a couple of years no (I think, didn't pay all that much attention then! ๐Ÿ™„) and I just figured they'd come back to 'normal' after my body had settle down after coming off. No such luck as they are still very light, 2 days of spotting, more browny that red (sorry TMI). I have GP appt tomorrow to get results from CD21 tests (to check progesterone levels to make sure I am actually ovulating) and am a bit anxious about the outcome. Have you tried going to your GP? The good news is that if you have conceived before then maybe it's just taking a really long time for your cycle to come back to normal again...

I was on microgynon for 12 years during which time my periods got lighter and lighter until I could get away with just using panty liners. I came off the pill and they never returned to normal, still just one day with a tiny bit of red blood and a few days of brown spotting. I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant (took a year and a half to concieve including one early loss on cycle 4, but we had diagnosed mfi issues) so it can happen! I drank lots of red raspberry leaf tea for the first half of each cycle as its supposed to increase blood flow to the uterus and it did seem to help. I also added a few drops of red clover extract to the tea and that also seemed to help. Good luck x

@MrFlibblesEyes thanks for replying to me, your AF sounds exactly like mine, I've been getting using just panty liners also. It makes me feel much better you still managed to conceive. Massive congrats by the way. ๐Ÿ˜Š You must have been going mad after waiting that long. What is mfi, male fertility issues I'm guessing?
Good tip on the red raspberry leaf tea. Is it something you got from specialist shop and how much did you drink? xx

@rubyroo oh that's annoying. I had the coil out Oct 2018, took the pill for two months and have used nothing since last Jan. I think mine are screwed. I used to have brown the day after. Now I get pink ish some months which Google tells me it's because I haven't ovulated. I'm sad but not going to see the doctor, we said number 3 would happen if it's meant to be. I'm not going to force it....hope you get yours sorted.

@Bloodylegoeverywhere I see. Well for what it's worth I think you have the totally right attitude. And if it happen it happens (it might still!)
I have just seen my GP about it and he seems to think it may not be an issue for me. Not sure if he really knows much about fertility though! Best of luck anyway x

Oh that's not what you probably wanted to hear!? Do you take complete vitamin b complex!? Reflexology or accupuncture to see if that helps!? Yoga to de stress, I swear that helped me along with the vitamin b. Try the smeg plan.
Also have issues emotionally from my second and high risk for things so realistically I need to be grateful for what I have. Keep reading and researching with what can help. Also take your temp! Let me know how it goes.
I'd go back in another year or so and see what else can be done!?

RudyRoo Wed 01-May-19 09:51:16

I suppose it kind of was and it wasn't! I was just relieved as I got my results from CD21 test and progesterone levels were 40 so just pleased I am actually ovulating, which was one of my main concerns. I have been reading up a lot online about acupuncture and I would really like to try it. Did it help you conceive? No I'm not taking Vit B, just Agnus Castus and folic acid, but maybe I need to add this into the mix.
I tried taking temps but mine were all over the place due to other things like not being a good sleeper and having to get up in the night to pee, and alcohol at weekends! So I think it was just stressing me out more. I have been doing OPK's though.
Sorry to hear about your difficulties and I can understand you may not want to have any high risk again. I think we could all do with taking the time to be grateful for what we have, and I keep telling myself that!
Since we have been TTC for 8 months my GP said this morning to go back in a hear if nothing has happened, which I knew would be the outcome and I guess is fair enough. I'm glad they have done the tests they have already and have also got DH booked to get his sperm analysis done next week.

Ps. I love yoga!

PetraRabbit Wed 01-May-19 10:23:38

@RudyRoo I'm older (43!) and have had light periods (max 2 days and almost no flow overnight) for a long time now. I'm 8 weeks pregnant now- I conceived the month after my lightest ever period- 1 day long! I had a scan to check fertility issues just before my BFP and was told my lining was nice and thick. It seems really odd but I have got pregnant twice before with light periods (one pregnancy was my DC). I don't think it is an issue but reflexology and fertility massage can be beneficial to get the blood flowing inside (it never made my periods longer though!)

PetraRabbit Wed 01-May-19 10:24:39

Also take a liquid iron supplement. It was one of the things I tried before my BFP this time.

RudyRoo Wed 01-May-19 11:29:49

@PetraRabbit thanks for your message, this has made me feel much better and massive congratulations to you on your BFP! Glad to hear it hasn't been too much of an issue for you. How many sessions of reflexology did you have? Good tip on the iron too so thanks for that - I will look into this!

RudyRoo Fri 03-May-19 08:21:17

This just happened. I actually can't believe it! In total shock and am so happy! x

MrFlibblesEyes Sat 04-May-19 07:38:51

Congratulations @RudyRoo! That's a lovely dark line too. Wishing you a boring uneventful pregnancy x

RudyRoo Mon 06-May-19 18:33:37

@Bloodylegoeverywhere thank you so much. DH and I are delighted. Want these first few weeks to be out the way before getting too excited though.
