Has anyone over 40 managed to fall pregnant successfully whilst extended breastfeeding?

I'm 42, still feeding my 14 month old. My periods came back when he was 6 months old and have settled at 27 days. We are TTC in that we have unprotected sex around the middle of my cycle but I haven't tried to track ovulation (mainly because I'm nervous to start really getting my head into it as I assume I'm unlikely to get pregnant again at my age).

I know the thing to do is give up breast feeding but I just don't want to. I just idly wondered if anyone had actually conceived at my age still breast feeding?

Thank you.

Don't give up breastfeeding til you are ready, if you cycles are regular, the likelyhood is that you could well be ovulating. I was sad to give up breastfeeding my son at age 41 (hospitalised with mastitis when he was a year old), but it made no difference to me conceiving or not. (repeated miscarriages while breastfeeding and after stopping, so stopping made no difference).

If you can cope with increasing times of unprotected sex, this might help with the health of the sperm, otherwise, just keep going as you are, until you are ready to stop breastfeeding. I hope you have a positive result soon.

Bless you 💐

I probably should track ovulation just to get an idea, even if it's just one month.

Wow that is some seriously extended breastfeeding. Sorry I couldn't resist.

Can you go and get tested at gp to see if you are ovulating? If you are you don't need to give up feeding.

One thing I'd advise is definitely tracking ovulation because with breastfeeding you will have a shorter luteal phase (i conceived both times with an 7-8 day luteal phase) so may well be ovulating later than you think...

I got pregnant with DD2 while still feeding DD1 who was 2, was only feeding her morning and night as I'd planned to feed until 2, this was only 6 months before I turned 40, we only had to TTC once.
