Hi, I've recently started metformin but am really suffering with nausea, and palpitations!! Can't seem to eat anything without feeling ill. If I don't eat, I feel sick, if I do I feel sick too.
Anyone got any suggestions or meals that make you feel a bit normal?

I'd try to eat first, then take it. It seems to like a tummy with food already in it. Are you starting with 1 tablet a day and then working up after a week? Xx

Yep. It has done fantastic things for me with next to no ill affects but you have to take it on a full stomach. Not with a cracker or something but a decent sized meal.

It helped me regulate my eating patterns too

Thankyou, yes maybe I'm not eating enough. I started on 1x 500mg for 2 weeks (felt dreadful every day) and then up to 2 x500mg but I just can't do it. Feel so sick.
Had a twitchy eye too! I just feel like I want to go to bed and sleep for days. Is this normal?

Had a twix yesterday but then threw up. So learning the hard way slowly. Sugary things a no no.
Weetabix only thing that feels kinda ok.

I can't really tolerate more than 1000mg. Anything more and most of the times it gives me the shits. Perhaps you just need to drop back to 500mg for a bit longer and then introduce another every other day. I also find that if I eat anything sugary or high fat, it doesn't agree with me either.

My doctor started me on 1000mg and said we will see how you tolerate that and then when your body has adjusted we can increase.

I also found I had to eat more to help me tolerate it. I think it's good to remember that metformin is primarily used in diabetes. A. It of trial and error also comes in a little bit with it. See what helps you to tolerate it.

Thankyou all very helpful. I'll just take my time increasing it as feels like morning sickness all day! Today was a bit better, weetabix and soda water /no tea. Whole grain bread, and berries. So far so good! Think you are right.. the fat content sends me over the edge too!

Out of interest how long did it take to work efficiently? Either cycle length, ovulation or pregnancy? I also have clomid, but missed this cycle as I felt far too ill.

Took 3-4 months for clomid to wor with metformin in my system. Clomid alone didn't work at all for me x

The trouble is because I'm feeling sick most of the day I can hardly get anything down so I'm going round in circles. Took it with lunch yesterday - whole grain bread and pate and then was so so ill for the rest of the day. Pate was a poor choice obviously.

Just tried to eat some porridge for breakfast and can only manage a few spoonfuls. The way I feel right now I just want to quit. Don't know how u ladies managed it!
Been really cold also? Like shivery! Is that a symptom?

Just want to see the light of this tunnel, cos right now I am in the darkness!! Feel so rubbish.
