Got my BFP but now having brown CM - upset

Hi all,

I'm not actually due AF until Friday so really shouldn't have tested. But I did. I tested yesterday afternoon with a cheap test and got a very faint bfp. Then I tested this morning with a cheap test and got a slightly stronger bfp.

I've just tested with a Clear Blue Digital so I could see it in black and white, and that is also positive (1-2 weeks)

But, literally as I was POAS with the clear blue digital, I noticed some brown CM/discharge. It's exactly what I'd expect to have if I was going to start AF on Friday.

I had a chemical pregnancy at 5 weeks in October, which started in the same way, and I'm so sad that it might be happening again. I knew I shouldn't have tested so early but I couldn't help myself.

Sad

This can also be implantation bleeding, esp if brown and mucous-y. If tests are getting stronger that is a good sign too. Hope allis well xx

Thank you BagelDog . I am praying that it is implantation bleeding. It just feels so similar to last time.

When I got the BFP, DH and I agreed that we wouldn't get our hopes up just yet. But I'll be devastated if it's another chemical pregnancy Sad

Old blood is not as worrying as red blood I would have thought? Stay positive and I hope it works out for you. Keep updating x

Sorry your so stressed, I think your best chance is to just try and stay positive at this point. Bleeding a small amount wether it is implantation or some old blood coming out during a normal pregnancy is fairly common, I know you've had a bad experience already so it's hard for you, but fx for you x

Thank you tattybogle and roseandbee . I'm truly hoping that it doesn't turn in to bright red blood, which is what happened last time. I usually get this kind of discharge before AF too, which makes it so worrying. Everything online is saying that brown discharge/CM is fairly normal, so I'm just hoping and praying it doesn't turn into anything else.

Slight update - was starting to feel a little bit hopeful but I've just gone to the toilet again, and there was more (on the tissue when I wiped). But this time, it wasn't mixed with white CM like yesterday. It was just a very very dark brown and almost glossy looking if that makes sense.

I just feel like it's happening again and I feel really sad about it.

Also, not that it matters much, but I've realised that I was actually due the Monday just gone, not Friday coming. I got my dates mixed up because I had a really long cycle last time. I know when I ovulated for sure though, and I was due on Monday. So it turns out I didn't actually test early.

Just really gutted and worried, and so is DH Sad

Hope it all turns out as you wish. All sorts of things can happen in early pregnancy, lots of discharge, creamy of yeallow of a bit brown or with old blood, can be normal. I had two huge bleeds with my first son and was convinced I had lost him but he was fine. Really hope this all settles x

Thank you so much for replying again bageldog. Really great to hear that it happened to you and all was fine.

I've just done another test, the only one I had in was a clear blue digital which one was trying to save for next week to check that the weeks had gone up, but I just had to test. It was positive, 1-2 weeks. Which is good, but maybe doesn't mean much. I don't know.

I'm also really unwell with a horrible virus and just feel like absolute poo right now.

No idea why in my last post my phone auto corrected 'I' to 'one', but it's made me sound incredibly posh.

Me again - sorry. I took a test 5 mins ago, so not FMU. It was just a cheap test from home and bargains. The line is darker than Tuesday, is this a good sign? Sorry, I know no-one can tell me anything for sure, but the support from this site really does help with things like this.

My baby is 8 weeks old. Throughout the first trimester when I was pregnant with him I had bleeding (mostly brown) and side pain. I ended up in the EPU were they gave me an early scan (mostly to rule out an ectopic pregnancy I think)

I know it must be such a worrying time for you but it really can turn out okay. If the line is getting darker I would say that's a good sign Flowers

I had the same through both my healthy pregnancies so it can be something or nothing

I had the same type of bleeding at 6 weeks and all was fine. Only time will tell OP but all the medics said brown blood was old blood and usually ok. There is nothing you can do for now, be kind to yourself, stop testing for a bit (as hard as that is) and just focus on getting through your virus.
Wishing you all the best x

Thank you so much everyone, you're all very kind Flowers

I actually got my dates a bit mixed up and realised that AF was due on Monday just gone, so I feel slightly better knowing it's not actually due tomorrow.

I've actually got a midwife appointment tomorrow, which I'm worried is a bit early. But I phoned my doctors yesterday and that's what they gave me. I do have lots of questions about other things, such as medication that I take etc, so I'll be able to ask her all those questions which is good.

I'll also ask her about the discharge and see what she says and if she recommends anything. I think it is just a bit of a 'wait and see' situation, which is hard but understandable.

Thank you so much everyone, you're stopping me from getting myself all worked up Flowers

Hope your appointment goes well ❤

Thanks again everyone Flowers I had my appointment with the midwife this morning and she was lovely and very reassuring. She said that I don't need to worry about the brown discharge and it's only bright red blood that needs to be checked out. So that's a big relief!

Oh I just hope it all goes well. She was lovely and told me to try and relax and enjoy my pregnancy. I'm going to try my best, but I don't think I'll ever properly relax!

Thats great news! Take comfort in the midwifes words , she knows what she is talking about! If she didn't think it was a big deal then it probably means she sees it all the time, which is reassuring! Hope you are well x

Thank you so much everyone Flowers I haven't told my family yet (although we're really close so I don't think I'm going to able to wait until 12 weeks, which was the original plan!) so having your support has been really really lovely, thank you Smile
