Is it hopeless?

It's almost 2am and I can't sleep I've got so much going on in my mind.
DP is 40, I am almost 39.
I'm overweight (size 16/18) but reasonably fit - go running/gym a lot.
DP had unexplained infertility with his ex-fiancée for 18-24mths.
So already fate seems to be up against us.
Then this morning after every possible pg symptom possible in the 2ww AF has caught me making my cycles now 26 days (last 3). That's too short isn't it??
I've cried all day, it just feels hopeless. 😢

How long have you being trying?

There's lots of options out there flowers

I've just bought a Clearview fertility monitor and sticks, I'm 38 and partner is 39 - he's a father already and I've never had children... I'll keep you posted on if it works or not smile

We've only been trying a few months but I feel like surely a 26-Day Cycle is too short??
And I'm really worried about his past history with his ex - does that mean we'll have similar issues?
I haven't used OPKs or temps because DP works away often (3/4 days away then 4 days home) and whenever he's away plus the mornings before he leaves we have sex - at least once a day as we both have very high sex drives blush

Try not to worry too, as stress will stop you from conceiving... my cycle is all over the place, hence buying this monitor to see what's happening... I can't see problems with your cycle at all... just go with it and see what happens smile

Get his sperm retested and seek advice. There's always fertility help but you should discuss with your doctor re prior issues if nothing else as it'll stress you out which doesn't help!

I conceived twice on a 26-day cycle. It's not too short.

Thank you everyone...I have a habit of massively overreacting to stuff so it helps to know 26 days isn't impossible. I was distraught yesterday. The last year has been incredibly tough for a variety of reasons.
I think I'll order some ovulation sticks and find out when I actually ovulate over the next couple of cycles and then if my LP is too short or we've still had no luck by April I'll go to the GP and see what he says.

Hi,

Sorry you're having a tough time. I'd echo what the others have said around ovulation tests - because then you're reassured you are ovulating, getting a sperm analysis and perhaps your day day 2/21 tests. If nothing else then might help to make you feel slightly more in control. Plus once you're over 6 months TTC they recommend seeing your gp anyway and it sounds like you're only a few months off this.

My DH and I tried for over 3 years before having our DD. We were diagnosed with unexplained infertility (as much as that can be a diagnosis!!). We conceived our DD naturally in the end. I've gone on to conceive twice again since then but unfortunately both resulted in losses but reassured me that perhaps that issue that existed previously might not by an issue in the future.

I hope you managed to get some sleep and are not feeling too bad today. AF has got me today too after I felt all the symptoms of pregnancy - it's so hard x

It's took me two full years with one mc in the middle.

Everyone says it and it sounds like a load of bollocks but chilling out can really help.

I decided to go back to work (first time I've been well enough to in years) so stopped properly trying. Got offered the job and got a positive test a few days later.

I am of course very happy and thankful but the timings been crap.

Oh I'm 28 with no known fertility problems.

I sometimes have 26 day cycles and my gynaecologist said it's fine xx

Ilovecaindingle Mon 23-Jan-17 07:42:21

I conceived at 42 with a 26 day cycle. Never had a positive opk either!!
Stress is a big no no so try and relax!!
I know easier said than done -
Vitamin c 1000mg twice a day recommended by an ivf specialist- for your dh for top sperm!
