Spotting before AF - do you get it?

Hi all,

Just trying to work out how common spotting before AF is...

Do you get it?

Is it the same time every month?

How would you describe it?

If you've conceived before, did you get it the month you conceived?

I get a little bit of brown-tinged discharge from 11dpo until 14dpo (AF arrives the next day).

I don't think I had it in the cycles I conceived.

The first time I noticed it was when we started ttc.

That's interesting Confused as I've only noticed mine internally at 11/12dpo.

Sorry for TMI but if I wear white underwear at this stage, I never know when to call it spotting as it's very subtle and gets darker over a few days.

How long have you had it? Have you conceived since it started? Do you have any idea what causes it?

I started getting this in my early 30's would happen for 2-3 days before AF would start. I haven't had an AF since December 15 as had a baby October 16 but he took a year to conceive while ds1 took 2 cycles of not really trying prior to this happening.

Not sure what it is but if when af returns it starts again will see dr about it

I did. With DS I hadn't long since come off the pill and I had something different every month but I had a tiny bit of spotting from 10dpo to 14dpo the month I got my BFP. Then after having DS my periods seemed to be normal in that they'd start with a 'big bang'. For some bizarre reason, as soon as we started TTC2 I would start spotting around 7dpo and af would arrive no later than 10dpo. I ended up pushing to see a consultant and I got prescribed clomid to try and help my LP. The first month I took it I started spotting at 7dpo so presumed it was all over, but it stopped at 11dpo and I got my BFP. I'm now 8+2. So I have no idea if clomid made a difference or what really. But obviously your LP is ok even with the spotting so I'm not sure it would be a problem for you?

Sorry if that was a bit long!

I did/do. Was seeing a gynaecologist about it and went back for results of my scan to be told the scan was clear/no reason. I told her I'd just had a positive HPT two days before on CD1 but had the spotting and now a period.

Had a "period" for first 3-4 months and otherwise perfect pregnancy and baby!

I had spotting for 4-5 days before AF finally came after about 4months of coming off the pill. My cycles before that had been perfect, only half a day of spotting and then AF would start. I seriously started to worry that it would affect TTC as I'd read so many things about it but I'm currently pregnant after 3months of TTC!

Thanks Natur.

Congrats on your baby!

So you had your BFP followed by spotting/period which continued for 3-4 months?

Did the gynae offer any explanation?

Thanks - this was 5y ago and since then the spotting is much less frequent.

It could have been numerous things. A small spot on my cervix, which bled easily. During the pregnancy they located a part of the uterus lining which was very close to where the embryo implanted, and done blood loss came from there.

For as long as I can remember I've had spotting 2-3 days before my period every month I'm due AF Friday and I've had no spotting every time I go for a wee I'm checking. I've done a lot of tests this last week I did one Sunday I'm 95% certain it was positive but then others since have been negative. I'm leaving it till Friday now before I do another xx

That's a good sign Saz! I think I had a CP last month and didn't have any spotting - discharge was white instead of yellow or brown.

Good luck for Friday!

I started getting very light (old blood) spotting a few days before my period a few years after my third child and have had every month since.

Also had it on the months I conceived but hadn't noticed it between or pre children.
