Would you recommend opks?

Hi ladies Xmas Smile my DH and I have been ttc for a few months now since I stopped bc and I've been thinking about getting some ovulation strips as my AF this month was 10 days late which is very unusual for me and it made me wonder whether I'm actually ovulating or not. I read that they can be good to use if you have irregular periods but I've also read online that they aren't that accurate. I was wondering if those of you who have used them would recommend them? And how often would you use them if your AF is irregular?

They're actually pretty accurate but only in telling you when your LH surge is. They can't tell you if/when you're ovulating. Generally if you get a positive OPK then they say you should ovulate 12-36 hours afterwards. The best way to check you're ovulating is probably BBT although I don't do that yet but considering starting! Also some symptoms can give you an idea. Cramping and pelvic pain, CM and cervical position are all indicators of possible ovulation too.

We were trying for over a year, the month I conceived was the time I used clear blue digital opks. The dates on my fertility app said I was done and dusted but the tests said keep going so we did! So I would recommend them!

I definitely would. Took us 20 months to conceive my LB and they reassured me I was at least dtd at the right time. I stopped using them when ttc no 2 as I had a couple of MCs and couldn't face peeing on anything else ever again. It's really a personal choice but first time I loved them, trying to get this second little one, I opted not to x

I bought some OPKs shortly after I found out my MMC at the dating scan in the summer- think I needed to feel I was doing something to help with becoming pregnant again.

For me they "work" in the sense that I get a positive when I have an LH surge (usually around CD15/16) but I need to do BBT to confirm actual ovulation.

To be honest, I've given up on BBTs and almost on OPKs now- on cycle 6 and losing hope/the will.

May take OPKs up again in January...need to do something as I'll practically be hitting 40 by the time we have another one, at this rate!

Yes, I used the Amazon cheap ones to start and then bought a clear blue fertility monitor from eBay. It really helped me to undertand my cycles and I fell pregnant on the second month of using it.

Just to add- have always bought the cheap OPKs off ebay, not the clearblue monitor ones.

Now thinking I probably splash out on a clearblue one!

Although I know they are measuring the same thing really.

They are measuring the same thing, I just like the fact that I only have to wee on a stick once a day rather than twice, and it tells me in letters 'low' 'high' or 'peak'. I was analysing lines so badly that my eyes went funny with the cheapies!

Thank you so much to everyone who replied. I think I will give them a go this month as my cycle has been abit crazy since coming off the pill. I had 4 "periods" in 6 weeks and then my cycle seemed to settle down. My AF started to become regular until this month when it was 10 days late and my AF is really light now too (I went on the pill originally because AF was ridiculously heavy and painful) I was naive to think that everything would just go back to normal after 10+ years on the pill xx
