Bleeding on period due date with positive test results!

I think I know how this is going to go, but it would be nice to hear from other ladies who have endured similar experiences.
First, a bit of background info...
We have two kids, our 11 year old daughter and our 8 year old son. My husband is 32 and I'm 31, we had our children young.
Over the last couple of years I have been ridiculously broody on and off. It'll be all consuming for a month or so and then it's like common sense hits and I realise how lucky I am to have my two healthy kids and it goes to the back of my mind again. This year has been different. I'm desperate for one more child. I want a big family, I want the chaos at dinnertimes and everything that comes with starting all over again.
Both of my children were conceived in the first month of trying and I thought that would happen again. We started to try in March this year and nothing happened and nothing in April. My husband then had to work away so things took a back seat until October. My period came on the 20th October and we began trying as soon as it finished.
With my two kids, there were no apps or tracking ovulation, we just did it and I think, as helpful and insightful as these things can be, they also seemed (for me) to pile on pressure and stress!
Anyway, last Monday night I had a horrible sickness bug and I stayed asleep all day Tuesday and felt rotten all day Wednesday. I work in a school so sickness bugs are part of the territory! On Wednesday evening, I thought I'd try to see if an ovulation stick could pick up a potential pregnancy as I had read they could. It came up very much positive. I doubt I could have been ovulating so late in my cycle. I tried again Thursday and Friday morning with the same result. So on my way back from work I picked up a sainsburys pregnancy test, or 4, and tested. It was a definite positive. This was one day before my period was due. Later that night, I tested again and it was still positive, though this time there was very slight signs of bloody cm. Yesterday, the days period was due, I was at the hospital all day withy son, while I was there I popped to the loo and found I was bleeding. The same amount I would during the first day of my period. Red as well as brown blood when I wiped. I only had a tampon with me so used that. A few hours later we finally got home and when I went to the toilet the tampon only had brown, old looking blood on it and not much. The only blood I saw last night and so far today is the brown looking blood you get at the end of your period. It's only when I wipe and go a bit 'up there' (sorry!). I did a test last night and this morning and they are both very much positive. I have been experiencing mild cramping since Friday. I also feel nauseous but this could be because I'm worried about this, rather than morning sickness.
I'm sure that I have suffered a chemical pregnancy. But have bought pregnacare just incase. I also bought 4 more tests to do over the next few days to see when the hcg will reduce so I get a negative.
If anyone else suffered a chemical pregnancy, how long did it take for a negative result? Or, and I'm trying not to give used false hope here, has anyone bled like this during what would be your normal period time and gone on to have a successful pregnancy?
I'm kicking myself because if I'd waited one more day I would have assumed it was just my normal period and would have saved myself so much upset!

I think usually with chemicals, the original pregnancy test is usually not very strong, then the test is negative on the day of bleeding. I think if your tests are still positive, this could just be an implantation bleed or some other early pregnancy bleeding. I've not experienced it myself but I've read a lot about it on here. I don't want to get your hopes up but it sounds as though you're still pregnant.

I have had that brown bleeding around the time of my period due date. I went for an early scan and all was fine. Good luck

I had the same thing. What I thought was a period, then stopped bleeding after my usual 4 days. The test was still positive. Then about 10 days later started bleeding again and lost the pregnancy. Just take it easy and see what happens. I got pregnant again a few cycles later and am now 34 weeks.

Hi 2ducks

With my chemical perganacy I was 4/5 days late then started to bleed. Went to the doctor when the bleeding didn't stop on day 12. She did a pregnancy test and it was negative. She did say once you start bleeding the test usually goes negative.
My friend is pregnant now and she had bleeding (red blood) all through the first 12 weeks on and off and just had her scan on Friday and everything is perfect.

I had a chem preg at 6 weeks. Had a scan after a week of bleeding to confirm but pg test was still showing positive.

Thanks for the replies. It's horrible not knowing either way. Even if I went to the Drs it would be too early for anything to show on a scan yet anyway, wouldn't it? If a negative result showed, yes I'd be really upset, but I'd be able to look forward to the next cycle. Trust me though, if it turned out to be just a blip and everything carried on as expected, I'd be over the moon. But how long do I keep testing for? If it's still showing positive in a week, would it be worth contacting the Drs and requesting a blood test? Or is that something that should be done now?

Are you still bleeding ducks if not and your test is positive I would say that your pregnant & it was just implantation bleeding.

The only thing I have noticed today is the brown blood, but it has only been noticeable when I have 'swabbed' inside with tissue paper. There's nothing in my underwear or when i wipe.
My shopping trolley must have confused the poor checkout lady today, 4 pregnancy tests, pregnacare and tampons!

I'm not now, just while I was at the hospital with my son yesterday when the bleeding was heavier. The ones I bought today are in case my period comes.

Just to say I had bleeding in all my pregnancies in the first trimester (3 pregnancies, 2 live births, 1 mc). The bleeding in the pregnancy which was a miscarriage was no different to that when all was fine. In fact, in my last pregnancy, I bled red blood all day around week 5-6. I was convinced it was over - I even spoke to epu who suggested I could either have a scan at 6 weeks or do another hpt in a week to see if it was negative. I had a scan, just to be sure, and went to it fully expecting them to say it was over, when in fact, not only was everything fine, it was actually twins! I did later lose one of them unfortunately, but this was due to a random developmental problem which had nothing to do with the bleeding.

My overall point is, bleeding doesn't mean anything unless it's heavy and goes on for several days I would say.

Just popping on to say I also had a similar experience with cramping and spotting and I also bled at around 4 weeks and assumed a miscarriage, he's now 7 and I've just picked him up from school in the torrential rain! Fingers crossed for you x

Thank you so much for asking. I had more bright red blood yesterday tea time. It was during one toilet visit and a little bit on my underwear. Since then it has just been that brownish old stuff, only when I do a 'deep wipe' if you know what I mean
I'm cramping still though.
However I did a test this morning which was still positive and I have just used a OPK, because I'm bloody obsessed and the test line was most definitely darker than the control line. So I'm still playing the waiting game!
I think I'm nauseous, but I could be convincing myself of that!

TBH I wouldn't pay any attention to what a hpt will show you. Hcg stays in your system unfortunately and can do for weeks after a miscarriage. I'm not saying that's what this is by the way- just that the tests don't tell you very much. Get a scan as soon as poss.

How do I even go about arranging a scan? I haven't been in touch with a midwife yet and getting through to my Drs is nigh on impossible. I tried today and I'll obviously try again tomorrow, but in the meantime, can I just turn up at the epu and ask for a scan? Would a&e be the best place to go?

No- you need to find your local early pregnancy unit. Google it, then call them and explain what's been happening. I wouldn't bother with your gp.

Ps- a scan won't show anything until you're 6 weeks pregnant. Not sure how far along you are.

According to Ovia, I would be 4 weeks and 3 days today. I'll phone tomorrow morning and take it from there x

I don't want to in any way worry you, or be a doommonger, but bleeding, especially brown blood, cramping or other pain, can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy. I'm sure it is not, and most likely just one of those strange pregnancy things that occurs, but please make sure you that you get seen as soon as possible and as soon as they would be able to see anything on a scan. Particularly if you start to experience severe pain, don't delay in seeing a Dr or going to an EPU/hospital.

I phoned the epu today but was told I would have to be referred by my gp or a&e and even then they won't scan until 6 weeks. I tried to get an appointment with my gp but surprise, they had no appointments so I'll have to call back at 8 in the morning.
I lost a little bit more red blood today. I lost nothing other than old stuff yesterday and I'd dared hope that it was just ib and everything would turn out ok. Now I'm back to thinking the worst, especially since the cramps are as bad as I get during the first day of my period.
Even when I do see my gp, assuming I manage to get in tomorrow, it'll still be next Friday before I can be scanned. It's the not knowing that's killing me. I can't be reassured or get any closure for a week and a half.
We bought a gorgeous vintage silver cross coach pram last month before ttc and now I feel like I've jinxed everything.

In my first two pregnancies I had bleeding on or off and mild cramping for first 12 weeks or so, both were successful. Had a scan at 6 weeks which is first time they'll do it (I seem to recall they said there's no point scanning earlier than that as it won't tell you anything, it's all too small). If you have a successful scan at 6 weeks, the chances of a successful pregnancy are actually pretty high. Despite the bleeding, and half-expecting to miscarry, I had HG so was throwing up all the time, rather an indication I was still pregnant.

I had a MC and chemical pregnancy, which involved mild pregnancy symptoms like nausea, a weak blue line on the pregnancy test, then fading, then spotting, before a mc/much heavier bleed with clots etc.

Re: ectopic. Yes, if you're spotting, stomach pain, especially referred pain up to your collar bone, then think ectopic, which is a medical emergency. In which case get yourself straight to A&E.

Well I'm currently in the gynaecology ward at hospital waiting an assessment for a possible ectopic pregnancy. How much can change in 5 days!! I just want closure now.
