Hi all Smile i am new here. Me and my OH have decided that i will come off pill next week. Been together over a decade (and on pill) OH is saying 'if it happens, it happens' i do like that he doesnt want to get stressed about it all. Although having been reading discussions on here, and being so darn excited, kind of want to go the whole hog charting AF and ovulation etc (sorry havent learnt all the acronyms yet!!) did others have the same?

I think most people start with "let's just see what happens." Which is obviously trying.

Do you use an app to monitor your periods at the moment? Just to check when you're due on etc.? I had one for years before TTC, I used it to plan holiday dates, big nights out etc. as I have very heavy periods. Might be worth getting one just so you know where you're up to in your cycle, can be useful data much further down the line if things don't work out. Good luck!

That's how me and my partner went about it.i used period tracker on my phone as my cycle is really all over the place (from 20-40 days sometimes!) so it was just to keep on an eye on if I was exceptionally late with af. Took us about a year to get pregnant, I was stressing about it a little though probably cos of my bizarre cycles. Unfortunately lost baby but it strangely made me relax about conceiving (as in I knew I could actually get pregnant now!) and became pregnant again not long after (due v soon now!).

Thats a great tip thanks Smile i dont really have 'periods' at the moment. I am on the mini pill (cerelle) and have been for about 14 years. I do often have a bleed each month, despite the fact i 'shouldnt'. The nurse said this is not too uncommon but its not a proper bleed. I guess i can start monitoring after my first withdrawal. Congrats to you that you have little one on the way!

I've just taking my last pill this morning after 14 years on it! Smile

Non identical twins run in my family, and I've heard your chances of having them are also increased in the first few months after coming off the pill, so we've decoded to use condoms until next year... But I'm so excited!

I've already taken prenatal vitamins for three months, so I'll be stocking up on some more and some pregnancy tests over the weekend, just in case! Grin

Ah thats great, so we are in the same boat then Smile cant tell you how excited i am to come off the pill. Its been such a long time to be on it, it will be interesting how/if changes happen. Fingers crossed for losing weight!! Let me know how you get on being off the pill. Its abit scary wondering if periods will go back to normal isnt it? Twins isnt even something i had considered !!!

You dh can always have a "give it a shot" approach and you can have a "testing for ovulation" approach - they aren't incompatible!

Jellybabie3 · 20/10/2016 08:45

Oh i know. I guess hes going for the 'natural' approach where as i am so happy weve finally got to this point, i want it NOW. He may twig when i am especially 'willing' on certain days haha. Only 7 more pills to go... Praying my periods come back OK

If you want to stop the pill just stop where you are, you don't need to finish the pack

Jellybabie3 · 20/10/2016 08:59

Yeah i had thought about it but heard that the symptoms coming off it before the end are worse?

I don't see why that would be. I stopped mid pack when we decided to ttc and can't say that side effects were bad

Ok. I heard that you get pregnancy like symptoms. I am on the mini pill cerelle. Maybe its different for different people/pills then?

I'm not sure about symptoms, but I waited for the end of the pack so I'll be able to tell for sure what's a chemical bleed and what's a natural one. Some people might not care though.

Wont i get a withdrawal bleed regardless of waiting until the end of the pack? I dont have breaks in my pill, i take it every single day

Maybe it's different for different pills. If you don't have a period at all while on it then presumably it doesn't matter when you come off.
Does the leaflet that comes with yours give you any info?

I think starting with a "lets see what happens" attitude is the way to go. There is no need to put pressure on yourself when starting ttc.

Start taking some folic acid and let yourself relax and just see what happens, don't stress about ttc

Me and dh have not long had our first baby, we had a very much let's just see attitude.
I took the pill for 15 years and I got pregnancy the second month of not taking it

No i dont have periods but for some reason i still get bleeds from time to time despite taking it religiously and on time. Its not something to worry about but apparently it is quite unusual. Either way i am expecting to have a withdrawal bleed before finding out what normal periods are like after 14years! I started taking when i was 16 but suffered badly with cramps (til i was sick) and heavy bleeds Confused

I am trying not to stress about it but i think at the mo its excitement more than anything. Like i said, its taken a long time for my partner to say he wants a baby.

I was on cerazette which is pretty much the same as cerelle and only had an occasional bleed in 4 years which is common with that type of mini pill. I really don't think it matters when you stop tbh

Ok great thankyou. Did you have any issues when you stopped taking it?

I don't really remember so they can't have been that bad! My kids are 10 and nearly 13 so it was a while ago now

I'm so excited for you. This time last year I was in your position and now I'm 20 weeks pregnant!

My OH one day just said "perhaps you should stop the pill" but then got stressed talking about it seriously, so I just "went with it" but was secretly super excited and a bit obsessive about fertile days etc Grin

I fell pregnant the first month, but sadly miscarried. I then got pregnant the first month of trying again, but had a chemical miscarriage. I then got pregnant the first time of trying AGAIN and am now 20 weeks!

It's very exciting and might take a while OR might happen very quickly!
