Spotting or my actual period ??

Hi all sorry I know this may sound about odd last week I started getting what was like spotting the blood was more a browny colour and literally happened and then stopped for a day then I woke up the next day and there was a tiny amount of brown blood again but then two days later I bleed really heavy which was a bright red which is very unusual for me I usually have light cycles anyway the heavy bleeding lasted one day and now it's back to brown colour but it's very light/ next to nothing there can anyone help me? We've been ttc for 7 months last month I had all the signs of pregnancy I even went to the doctors and she told me to do a test which came back negative a week after that I came on, this time the bleeding was 4 days early but I haven't had any signs apart from feeling sick / being sick whilst brushing my teeth or after eating or smelling certain foods , can someone help or advise me thank you
