Conception

Very Confused. Sorry if this is all TMI

Sorry if this is long and hard to understand, I'm tired from overthinking all night and I don't understand ovulation etc at all.
So I've been saying to DP for a while that I want a baby with him but we agreed to wait. He didn't seem keen on the idea of "letting go of his youth" for a little while but then became more comfortable with the idea of actually talking about having a child etc and he now comfortably admits he wants a child.
We didn't really say "let's try" or anything so we've still been using protection (aside from two episodes which gets explained in a bit). I tried reading up on the various websites and read other stories so I could be prepared but it got very confusing.
I wanted to give myself a seriously good head start before we decided to TTC so I knew what I was getting into and could change my mind or make sure we were all prepared health wise. I'd need to stop vaping and start eating healthier/taking folic acid etc.
Then late last night I had a small bleed. I'm not sure if the bleeding has stopped now (there was still some this morning) but it was mostly brown/dark red. I only had my last period just over a week ago so it shouldn't be that. Then I thought, what if it was implantation bleeding... I did an ovulation calculator to see if it could be that and apparently I should have started ovulating on friday. We did the do on friday night but we used protection (although DP tried not to for about 15 seconds so there is a 15 second gap in which I could have conceived... seems unlikely). I read up on when implantation bleeding can happen and on the good old unreliable internet it said that I would most likely get implantation bleeding 6-12 days after the egg was fertilised.. which then prompted me remembering that DP decided to use the old fashioned pulling out method last week. It kinda all ties in if I did conceive last week except, according to the calculator, I wouldn't have ovulated a day after my period finished...

Please can anyone who understands ovulation help me with this? Could I have ovulated a day after my period ended? Could I have implantation bleeding 2 days after having sex? or is this bleeding something else entirely? which seems the most likely here?
Also, how long after implantation bleeding would I get a + test result (assuming I were pregnant)? I don't want to waste a £14 clearblue that I have in the cupboard if it wouldn't even show up on a test yet. I've read some people saying to wait until next period is due, and others saying they waited 24-48 hours after the implantation bleeding...

Many thanks if you held on this far. I'm tired and so confused right now.

Okay, so if you had your period one week ago then no, you can't have ovulated straight after. You need time for your LH and oestrogen hormone to increase sufficiently to release an egg for ovulation and that cannot happen in 24 hours from menstruation.
If your cycles are regular, and around 28 days in length, then ovulation will occur between day 12-17.

Implantation bleeding 2 days after conception is also very unlikely. The egg needs to travel down the Fallopian tube and into the uterus to implant and this takes 7-10 days.

Typically people can get a positive result on a pregnancy test a couple of days after implantation, as HCG starts to get released once the egg has burrowed its way into the uterus. So, it differs for everyone, but a positive test is likely around 12 days after ovulation, or 2 days before your period is due.

So, I would say that pregnancy in your situation is unlikely as it's still early on in your cycle. You are probably approaching your fertile/ovulation window now. Try to relax as much as you can - bleeds sometimes happen randomly. Keep an eye on it and if it continues make an appointment with your GP.

If you are still worried then I would advise testing with a First Response Early Result 3 days before your period is due to put your mind at ease. If it's the digital Clear Blue test that you have then these are less sensitive so not reliable until your period is a few days late.

Best of luck.

Thank you. This is exactly what I thought but couldn't find anything to back it up. I just don't think I've really put enough effort in to get pregnant and it doesn't add up at all.
I did have lots of tests and scans last year due to bleeding in between periods and everything came back fine so they took me off the pill and said it was probably that. I haven't taken the pill in a long time though so I doubt it is that again (if it was that last time).
I've also been getting headaches and for about a week or two, serious acid reflux. Everything gives me indigestion right now and every burp burns my throat. It's gross. That's what made me wonder if I was pregnant but I really doubt it would all be this quick to show up.
I really want to be able to get involved in the planning side of things and take back some of the control I didn't get to have with DS when I had him.
I want to start folic acid before TTC and whatever else will help and make for a really healthy, smooth ride.
I'll do a first response test to be sure and book in with the docs this week to find out what's going on. Thank you :)

I ovulate the day after my period ends and have very short cycles. Conceived my son the day after my period last year - not impossible.

Don't be like me and waste money on millions of tests though, wait until you're overdue!

ohno that is terrifying haha I reckon I'm far too impatient not to test every day though and the same goes for DP so I've told him to come home with cheap tests that show the lines so I can watch out for even a faint mark just in case. If nothing in a couple weeks I will crack out the first response and clearblue to be certain.
