Removal of coil, ovulation and conceiving

Hi MNers,
I'm new on here and myself and OH are in early stages of trying for a baby.
He has two children from a previous relationship, I have none.
I had my coil removed last week (a week today) and I've had a variety of answers when I've asked how long it generally takes for my cycle to come back. I have ovulation sticks but as expected only a week in nothing as of yet. Can anyone share their experiences with me please?

Was your cool hormonal or copper? Mine was copper and I was pregnant within a month.

I used copper coils on/off for about 10 years.
Twice I had them removed in a December to try for a baby 'after Xmas'.
I have two November babies both born in the year after the removal.

Thank you, this is encouraging.

I had the mirena coil which is the hormonal one. However because it was in a little longer the nurse said that there is a chance I could fall pregnant straight away.

I just find its nice to hear other stories, and find out out other people got on.

I'm in the same situation kpreenian, having mirena removed next Thursday and then will be TTC DC2 straight away. Have had mine in for just over 2 years and am dreading the bleeding afterwards as I haven't had a single period with the coil!

My Dfriend had hers out and was pregnant less than 4 weeks later.

Mammabear31 - I have hardly bled from having mine removed, but yes like you I'm dreading a period after I've gone 5 plus years without! Have you had the coil in and removed before, I was dreading it because of the stories I'd read but it was ok, uncomfortable but pain free. x

No this is my first coil. I'm not looking forward to the actual removal itself; it's good to hear it was pain free for you. Mine is booked in for 8.30am next Thursday and I'm tentatively planning on doing nothing for the remainder of the day!

I wouldn't worry, I know it's easy for me to say it but I was petrified and it was nothing like I had expected. They pull it towards your cervix which is a strange feeling but by no means painful, then ask you to take a big breath in, in less than a second it was done and I felt no pain whatsoever. I think sometime when people say uncomfortable it means painful, it's just an odd feeling but by no means painful at all!

Thank you, it makes me feel better reading that. I can definitely grin and bear it but I have the day off work so can rest up if needs be.

Just been to see neighbour to drop off a parcel and met her 2 week old DS2....I think I may have actually swooned!! 😍

When I had my merina fitted I passed out, apparently due to cervical shock, which isn't very common so I was dreading having mine removed.
I had an ibuprofen before hand but it was painless. He struggled a bit because the strings were a bit short but one he had them it was easy to get out
Take some pads with you as you might spot a bit when they remove it.
As for conception I was advised fertility would return to normal straight away.
I was lucky enough to conceive straight away. So after 8 years of no periods I went straight to getting preg (and have still had no periods since, due to breastfeeding lol #win)

I have had two coils (Mirena) removed for TTC purposes.

On the first occasion with my Mirena I still had regular cycles and monthly periods and I conceived the first cycle after it was removed.

On my second Coil I had really irregular bleeding for 7 months but then for the next 3 months (prior to having it removed) I didn't have a period at all. I got my BFP within three weeks but unfortunately miscarried two weeks later.

I started a thread about miscarriage and coincidentally a lot of responses were off women who'd had early miscarriages after falling pregnant on their first cycle after Mirena removal.

When me and DH planned to TTC DC1 I was warned by my GP that miscarriages can happen on first cycles but I think that's more specific to women who don't have periods whilst the Mirena is in place.

The theory is that if you haven't been having periods then the endometrium layer in the womb isn't thick enough to accommodate a developing egg in the first few weeks and so a miscarriage can occur.

I don't know if there's any evidence base behind it. I do wonder though if that's why I had a successful pregnancy the first time round but miscarried the second time round. Me and DH plan on TTC again (the miscarriage only happened last week) but I'm going to wait a few months so I can have some normal periods first and let my endometrium layers get thicker.

I'm sure there are many, many women though who've had successful pregnancies after the first cycle of Mirena removal despite having not had periods, like I said, I don't know if the above theory is evidence based or something that has just been born of many women's experiences.

Ps) my first coil removal was horrendous due to lost strings. I had to see 2 different GPs who poked around inside my cervix trying to find the strings and when they failed I was referred to an Obstetrician at a specialist centre to have it removed. I had to have an USS and I was hoisted up in stirrups with a light between my legs whilst the doctor and his theatre nurse used various tools to remove it. It was very painful.

However, the removal of my second coil, where the strings were visible, was so, so simple. It took about 5 seconds and was completely pain free.

Hi ladies, I am reading this with interest. I'm getting my coil removed next week! I have had it in for almost 3 years since having DS2. I am get nervous about the removal. I have never had a Mirena removed before. I have been having "trouble" with my Mirena lately. Cramps, mood swings, sore boobs etc. I tried to feel my strings but can't!

Do you know if they 'clip' your cervix with forceps for removal (like they do at fitting) or just pull it out?

They clip it like they do when you have a smear. I was under when they out mine in but I assume they did the same then. That's the most uncomfortable part of it really, the rest is ok. X

Or did you mean clipping your actual cervix. If so then no they don't. They just put the clamp thing in and pulled it out xx

I never tried until a few days ago. I'm going to a private clinic to get it out and they said if they can't see the strings they will have to get me to come back and do an ultrasound to find them!

That's what I'm dreading - it was quite a while ago DH said he could feel them so fingers crossed they are "dangling"!! I've been cheeky and booked tomorrow and Friday off work, I was too worried about going back to work and bleeding all over my office 😩

Are you going to TTC straight away? Or wait a cycle or two? Where you told not to DDT without protection for a week before removal?
