Conception

End of the road?

It's been two weeks since a late miscarriage, so I'm still signed off work and having too much time to think about what to do next.

We have 2 dcs, conceived when I was 32 and 34, preg first attempt, straightforward pregs and births.

Decided to try for a 3rd dc last year, me age 38. Got preg 1st try, lost baby at 20 weeks mmc (baby girl had died at 13.5 weeks). No causes found.

Tried again a few months later age 39. Got preg 1st try again, but baby boy died at 18 weeks, mmc. Had blood tests back and they are fine. Have 2 month wait for post mortem but just know they won't find a cause.

Hospital will refer us to a specialist miscarriage consultant once they have pm results, but I'm not sure what they can do for us to raise the odds of a successful pregnancy. Guessing the fact that we get preg so quickly means ivf/pg screening is not for us?

I'm exhausted and heartbroken and can't face yet another late loss, but also can't bear this being game over for us.

Docs and midwives all say it's not my age, but I just wish one of them would tell me the truth, that yes it is your eggs/age and maybe we should stop trying. Most are encouraging us to wait a bit then try again....3rd time lucky they say.

I'm having a private ovarian reserve test in a few weeks. I know that can test for egg quantity, but can it show quality?

So confused. Any advice about future pregnancies after recurrant late loss appreciated.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you it must be heartbreaking

I don't know much about late mc but I wonder if something has shifted since your last birth-the thing that springs to my mind is a possible thyroid problem as this can cause mc. It may be worth asking gp to run some tests and see what your TSH level is as if you have an interactive thyroid it can cause problems with fertility, implantation and mc. The ideal level is below 2 I think
