First time poster but long time lurker here.

DH and I had a chat and we've decided to stop contraception and see what happens, probably from March/April time. After having a mild freak out (which is crazy, because I am as broody as anything), I've realised I should get my butt in gear and sort out folic acid.

I have a family history of spina bifida, and the NHS website recommends 5mg folic acid instead of the usual 400ug. I can't seem to find 5mg tablets anywhere, anyone know where I can buy them?

Thanks Smile

I took 5mg folic acid due to high risk pregnancies and had them prescribed by doctor

I've also had them prescribed.

Yep, echoing the others, I had 5mg prescribed for me (due to high BMI).

Yup you have to get them prescribed, nowhere sells them. I asked for some due to high BMI as I'd read on the NHS website that this was wise. My GP gave them to me, but both she and my midwife were entirely baffled by the request!

Thank you all. Better get on the phone to the Drs.

Hi, I take 5mg on the recommendation of my fertility specialist. I got a private perscription for them and it cost about £8 for six months from sainsburys!
