I ovulate really early, shortly after my period finishes, usually about CD 8 or 9. I'm not actively TTC so I'm not 100% sure, but I remember this from when I was TTC and I have signs like EWCM/ovary pain. My cycles are usually around 25-28 days.
So if I was to test at 12dpo which seems to be a reasonable time to test for most of you, that would be ages before my period.
I had a bit of a contraception fail this month, forgetting that my antibiotics would mess with my pill. I've been ill and just started a new job so we haven't dtd for ages other than last weekend which would have been around/maybe slightly after ov date and I just had a weird feeling at the time that I'd end up pregnant but dismissed that feeling as a bit ridiculous and superstitious, and as such didn't do anything to prevent it - being pregnant wouldn't be the end of the world, just a few months earlier than anticipated, especially as it took us ages last time. Haven't really had any symptoms aside from low cramps which I had last time I was pregnant.
Today I'm on about 9dpo and just did an IC test out of curiosity... and there's definitely something there. I'm inclined to say it's an evap line or the marking where the line should be, because it's not even a squinter and I can only see it at a funny angle, I actually dismissed it as 100% negative then caught it out the corner of my eye and saw a shadow. It's so feint it's hard to even see if it's grey or pink.
So when can I test properly? I don't want to waste money on a bunch of FRERs and put myself through the "am I or aren't I" stress until I can get a definitive answer, I'm just not sure when that might be...
