How quick was your 2nd labour?

Hi ladies,

Yesterday I posted in the pregnancy forum asking what the weight difference was between their first born and second born. Some people responded with the length of times their labours were too, which has worried me somewhat!

Basically, I live 20 miles from the hospital and it can take anything from 40mins to over an hour, depending on traffic.

I wasn't too concerned before because I was roughly 18 hours from 1st pains to DD being born and 9 hours of proper labour. A few ladies had similar labours first time and then 45 minute labours second time(which wouldn't give me long enough to get to the hospital Shock)! What was your experience second time round?x

28 hrs with first.. 4 hours with second. I won't be hanging around at home for long with DC3 due in 4 weeks!

12 hours.

The midwife told me its normally about half the length of your first. Mind you she also told me that second babies come earlier and to be ready for that, dd2 came later but her labour was about half the time.

Both my labours started with my waters breaking.
Dd1 was born 5hrs 15 mins after.
Dd2 was born nearly 17hrs after.

Dd1 was also 2 weeks early and dd2 was 4days late.

First one I got induced. It was on a Wednesday, water broke on Saturday at 4 pm and my son was born at 12:10 am on Sunday! So 8 hours

With second I had Braxton hicks for almost 4 weeks then proper labour started on Tuesday morning at around 6:30 am and she was born at 9:41 am. 3 hours

My sister in law delivered her 3rd one 2 weeks ago and she barely made it to the hospital. Once she arrived at the hospital baby was born 25 min later! And she only lives 7 min from the hospital!

Congrats

5 hours with my first, 90 minutes with my second. If I ever have a third I've going to invest in safety-net knickers!

About 40 hours with DD1, but she was B2B so ended up with forceps. DD2 was 5 hours from start to finish, born within 25 minutes of arriving in the hospital car park! She was out in 2 pushes!

Thank you so much for your replies! It's much appreciated! I've just realised that stupidly, I've posted in conception! I totally thought I had posted in childbirth. Sorry ladies! Brains not quite functioning properly these days xx

Mine were both around 5 hours.

There is really no way to predict! I was told I could have a super speedy second delivery after the first was so quick but it was the same amount of time (although felt quite different).

Do make a plan that you feel comfortable with so you don't panic if it does feel like things are moving more quickly.

Good luck!!

I went to the hospital shortly after contractions started, but it all quickly faded into nothing and I went out with my husband to the restaurant then returned to the hospital and gave birth 24hrs later. 2 hours active labour.

Second time lasted 1.5hrs from the very first contraction to meeting the baby girl! Active labour was 11mins Shock. I couldn't believe it, I thought this is fiction type of stuff that never happens to anybody in RL! My waters broke on the back seat of the taxi, I couldn't really talk at that point and don't know what the taxi driver thought of the damage. I would have apologized / paid for the damage if I could track him down. I hope he was insured against this kind of thing. If I knew how quick it'd be I would have asked the neighbours to drive me but you don't think of it as a polite thing to do in the middle of the night! I really thought I'd be fine.

10 1/2 hours for first labour. 2 1/2 hours after I finally agreed hospital may be a good idea!
Less than an hour with the second!
