Pregnant three weeks after miscarriage?! Could I be?!

HI all

I am brand new to this so forgive me if I sound stupid but I would LOVE some advice or shared stories.

I had a mmc on the 6th Jan - it was our 2nd miscarriage in six months after 18 months of struggling to get pregnant. I was utterly devastated but didn't want to lose any time so as soon as the bleeding stopped (about 2 weeks after surgery), we had sex twice.... and now six days later, I am getting all the pregnancy signs I had the last 2 x I have been pregnant. Bloated, smelly wee (sorry!), wind (sorry again!), aversion to booze (amazing, considering how low I have been!) and just that feeling.

Is this possible??! Any help would be amazing! I did an ovulation test shortly before we had sex and it was a strong positive but I know that could still be the HCG from the previous pregnancy.

I am crossing every limb possible that I am pregnant again. But I have NO idea if this is possible.

Thanks in advance for any help!

xx

So sorry about your losses, kate
I think unfortunately 6 days post sex is too early to be getting a new positive, and it's far more likely you have residual HCG in your system. It's certainly possible to get a BFP immediately post MC without a period in between, so I guess you wait and see if you continue to get positives (maybe try the Clearblue tests to see if levels go up) or of AF arrives.
I have had 4 MC at 9-10 weeks and it took longer than 3 weeks each time to get a negative. The higher your levels/later on the MMC was discovered, the longer it takes to fall back to zero.
I hope you get your rainbow very soon.

Thanks so so much for your reply. I will test again in a week and see what happens. It is so confusing knowing when you will ovulate after a miscarriage. After my first miscarriage (8 weeks) which I passed naturally, it took four weeks to get a negative. SO frustrating. The waiting game is the most painful part of TTC isn't it, especially after miscarriages?

Thanks so much for your reply. Hope you are well. x

Sorry for your loss. Did you do a pregnancy test afterwards? It took 3 weeks for my test to turn negative. Don't want to take away any hope but 6days does seem v quick!

Happened to me. My dd is about to turn 4 now! My mw said quite causally 'oh yes you can be hyper fertile after a mc' DH refused to believe I was pg for weeks because of mc...
Fingers crossed for you

Thanks JoMalones. I think you are both right, and it is just left over HGC from the last miscarriage.

Do you think it is possible to be pregnant after 3 weeks though? Would I have ovulated that early? The smell of my wee (sorry) is SO distinctive and I have never had it before apart from pregnancy. However the other two times, I didn't get any symptoms until 10 days after sex. Is it too early to be getting symptoms?

Thanks for your advice. xx

You might be, did you have any of your normal ovulation signs? I miscarried in 2008, and got pregnant before having a period, we tried as soon as I saw signs of ovulation. On the other hand it may be residual hcg.

I had stabbing pains in my right hand side - which I took as ovulation pains, but tbh, I have never really looked out for ovulation pains before so I don't really know if that is what it was. It sounds stupid, but I just knew that I was ovulating and it was time to try again...

What signs did you get? How many weeks were you when you miscarried and how long after the m did you try again?

Thanks v much xx

Hi Kate,

I'm in kind of the same boat, ERPC for MC on 3rd Jan. Have had some pregnancy type symptoms past couple of days so 3 weeks past MC.

However I don't do preg tests or Ov tests so I can't give advice on that. After a long time TTC I only do tests now when my period is late. It took 34 days for my period to come back after my last MC so unless symptoms ramp up massively and period doesn't arrive, I won't test until sometime in Feb.

My consultant also says fertility is higher after MC and the only reason doctors ever say to wait a month before TTC is so they can more accurately date the pregnancy.

Sorry this post is a bit long winded and pointless but just wanted to say that you aren't the only one! Fingers crossed for you.

Ooh fingers crossed for you too! God I hope we are both lucky this time round. Let me know. Are you avoiding caffeine booze etc in the meantime? Or just trying to continue life as normal and relax? Sorry if too many questions. I don't want to drink but just wondering whether to be careful about what foods I eat etc, and also since the MC, I have been having awful insomnia and have sleeping pills from the doctor, but I am reluctant to take them if I am pregnant or at least could be. Very hard to know what to do either way!

It's too early to become pregnant again. Your hormones would need to settle down and restart a new cycle so it's moe likely that the hcg is from the lost pregnancy. Test again in a week. Hopefully you'll get a real positive soon enough!

Thank you for thinking of me while you are in the middle of it all. I had a DD who is now 20m old after going to Coventry University Hospital and being treated for high NK cells. Can't recommend them enough for anyone suffering from unexplained infertility or recurrent miscarriage.

I don't think you could have ovulated while still bleeding unfortunately. I would guess it would take at least a week between bleeding stopping and ovulation happening. So I think it's unlikely that you could have conceived straight after the bleeding stopped.

Thanks so much for all your advice. I will test again in a week. Wish me luck! And good luck to any of you who are trying too xx

I was pregnant again 3 weeks after a miscarriage, but it was a blighted ovum at 6 weeks so there was no foetus there to 'pass'...I only bled for 5 days and it was lighter than most of my periods.

Fingers crossed for you OP.

I ovulated two weeks after a miscarriage at 6 weeks and fell pregnant (is now six weeks old and stuck to my boob). The miscarriage was very light, couple days, less than a period - though I bled at six weeks I think it may have stopped growing before that.

I had an Mmc also at ten weeks and it took almost 6 weeks before I stopped getting positive pregnancy tests.
Then had an early miscarriage at 7 weeks and ovulated again just over 2 weeks later, got pregnant that cycle and had ds.
I would say it's too soon for you to have ovulated and to have pregnancy symptoms. The positive test is more likely to be from the mmc.
But hope I'm wrong!

Thanks so much everyone. Sounds like my body is playing tricks on me!

When my boyfriend gets back from the pub, I am going to tell him we need to keep trying!

Does anyone have any tips on how you know you are ovulating after a miscarriage?

x

Same way you know you are ovulating any other time...I began temping again and checking my cervical fluid as soon as I stopped bleeding.

I can only share my own experience but I miscarried at 10 weeks and sure enough I was pregnant 3 weeks later- I think friends were shocked but it really does happen. Oh and I had the smelly urine too, it was my first sign with both pregnancies Good luck
