Last ditch attempt!

Hi,

Bit of back story, first DD who is 12 was unexpectedly conceived with long term partner, when she was 3 we started trying for number 2 and yes 9 years later still no baby. 4 years ago we went for blood tests, semen check and laparoscopy were told everything is fine your young it will happen but was given the option of paying for Clomid, we tried it for 1 cycle but nothing. Anyway we really want to give it a last blast and see if we can make this happen as neither of us are getting any younger!

I am going to start trying things we haven't before like drinking loads of water, taking evening primrose oil but if anyone has anything they think I could try just let me know lets see if we can make this happen, I can be a sort of guinea pig for conception... haha god if i didnt laugh I would cry constantly!

9 years. Oh god that's hard

I take guaifenesin to improve cervical mucous and it's noticeable. Also vitamin c and zinc. Zinc is supposed to boost fertility and vitamin c thins mucous too.

9 years is a long time. Maybe go back to the doctors and ask to be referred to fertility clinic again and have a gynae ultrasound scan if you can. There's a place near me that does them (although a bit pricy around £100)

Thank you so much for your reply, yes it has been a long tough 9 years! I will have a look at the vitamins and guaifenesin you mentioned. Would the ultrasound scan show different things to the laparoscopy I had?

My daughter was born by emergency c-section after a long try at labouring but they told me my uterus was too small for her to get out, I sometimes wonder if this did any damage.

Ooh that's a good question actually.

An ultrasound will show you what your ovaries are up to right now, and whether they are healthy.

There are other tests that can be done such as a hysteroscopy (looking inside the womb) rather than looking at the outside and general structure of womb and ovaries etc that I assume was what they looked at during laparoscopy. It would show up any lining issues or scar tissue which might hinder conception.

Also, this was 4 years ago. They said it "would happen", but that wasn't particularly useful and it hasn't yet. I think they at least owe you some kind of further investigation at least to see if anything else has changed.

Knowing where you stand will hopefully ease some of the stress of TTC.

Sounds like you had a hard time with DD1
I had an unusual anatomy too which caused a lot of problems in my last pregnancy and I wonder if there was some damage or scar tissue caused. I'm working up the courage to go and get a scan at the moment actually but having a good few attempts at TTC first

Thank you, your right I feel like I have been left in limbo, I keep saying to myself just accept it won't happen then another month comes along and I can't just get over wanting another child!

I thought maybe the laparoscopy and offer of Clomid was my last resort but maybe your right I need them to actually check further within the womb.

My DD was also an emergency c section. We tried for 4 years for number 2. We had all the blood and sperm tests and were told we were fine. Eventually saw a specialist who diagnosed uterine adhesions (Ashermans)- apparently according to him it's the main cause of secondary infertility. He thought my catastrophic birth was the cause, although it's often D&Cs which cause problems. It doesn't show up in any blood tests etc - I had to have a hysterosalpingogram. He then did a quick operation to snip the adhesions- I was pregnant 2 months later.
If it helps I saw Dr Trew at the Hammersmith hospital.

Hi Stoopstofolly, thank you for your message, that is very interesting. Can I ask after you first child did you have any pain at all in the uterus area (wasnt sure how to put that!) I only ask because for a long time after my c-section I was getting sharp pains at the front in that area not constant but enough for me to go the dr's which is unusual for me, she said at the time it was probably just scar tissue and eventually this issue went away but after what you have said I am now thinking maybe it has caused issue's to stop me conceiving.

Hi Meggysmum- I did have a lot of pain afterwards, but it's hard to tell if it was uterine or not as it was just a "car crash" down there (actual words used by my actual bloody doctor!) I'm still bitter.
After 9 years, assuming you're having sex often enough at the right time something should have happened so if I were you I'd make a big fuss and get checked out!

Wow what a lovely dr - not! After I was home my first midwife to visit after reading my notes said "oh your that lady who had that really long labour...." I was thinking all sorts after she said that, it must have been bad if they were all talking about me!!

So after reading what you have said stoopstofolly I have requested to see my medical records, i want to know what was looked at with my laparoscopy, after this i am going to ask to be referred back to the hospital again - time to take charge!
