Hi could really do with some advice.

Went to see my GP this morning as we having been ttc for 4 months (I am 38) they want me to have a blood test to see if I am ovulating, if I'm not does that mean that I will NEVER conceive?

Course not, I have pcos which means I don't ovulate on my own, I was referred to a fertility specialist who prescribed me a drug called clomid which helps a woman to ovulate and I fell pregnant with my daughter on the second month of taking it. Good luck with the blood test and hopefully it's good news for u x

It's perfectly normal to be sent for this test first. Take one step at a time, this is your first. There are very few issues that cant be over come. Good luck.

I'm 37 been trying for two years. Had all bloods done through hospital. Hubby checked out too. They discovered I'm not ovulating.
First month of Clomid done and I'm sat in the car waiting to go in for the scan to tell me if its worked.

Even if you not ovulating there are things that can be done to help. I'd say that is a good start by your GP!

How long was that process? My gut instinct is im not ovulating, if I go to the doctors and get blood tests done and it shows im not ovulating, how long is it before they'll give me fertility drugs?

It's been a few months as it takes a full cycle for the blood tests.

Ended up having to pay for Clomid because bmi was too high. However, just been for first scan and i have a big egg just ready to pop!!! Chuffed to bits Grin

Good luck with your bloods Pumkin. Sorry to hijack the post, just wanted to ask Angel about getting Clomid with a higher BMI. Mine is currently 34 and I've been losing weight to reduce it in order to get Clomid on the NHS, as my area won't prescribe it til BMI is 30. Hopefully I'll be able to get there, but I was wondering how private consultants view BMI and Clomid? Is it a case of 'you can have it as you're paying for it'? Or are there restrictions there too. Any advice on your experience would be appreciated

Great news about your egg too! Smile

Hi MrsC my BMI is currently 38 so I am also trying to reduce it, easier said than done but I'm trying!
From what I understand it is less effective the higher your BMI is, however, I was offered Clomid at 100mg no conditions (other than payment).
Chuffed to bits that it has Worked for me and I have ovulated. Probably can't afford it next month but apparently it is no less effective if it is not used on consecutive cycles.

Good luck to you, fingers crossed xx please keep in touch and let me know how you get on would be nice to have a Clomid Buddy xxx

Yes, I've had anovulatory cycles - had 3 out of 5 earlier this year with confirmation from blood test (other 2 cycles could have been as well but didn't have blood test those months). We are in our 40's and ttc number 1 for over a year with no success. Got follow up appointment with specialist on NHS next week so will be intrresting to hear her perspective and what she suggests we do next.

Hi Pumpkins did you have a scan around day 11? A scan or bloods would help to confirm ovulation.

Hey Pumpkins just a thought I had this morning, perhaps you ovulated earlier this month. According to the nurse I saw she said Clomid can shorten or lengthen your cycles. Good luck

Hi Angeldelight, funny thought that myself this morning( great minds!) but I'm not on Clomid yet but cycles is a bit off at the moment as I was 5 days late thought I was pregnant but the came AF. Did another test this morning still negative so went to buy another to make sure the first wasn't wonky but new one also says BFN. Thank you.x

Hey ladies, as your talking about ov bloods thought id ask a question!

I have my ov bloods booked in for this Wednesday 14th , gp asked for me to come in 21 days after my period.. which would be on Wednesday. This is to see if im ovulation, thing is my apps (Ovia and Pink pad) show that i am either oving from 9th-14th or 6th-12th.. should my ov bloods not be done at my peak?!

Hope that makes sense Confused

Hi Stace I think day 21 is a pretty standard blood test regardless of cycle. Mine have been all over the place and they still did mine day 21. Good luck with yours!

Stace, d21bloods are actually 7day pre af bloods because they're not looking at FSH/LH levels which are done d2-4 but looking at progesterone levels which rise when you have ovulated.

Good luck and I hope the results are positive for you xx
