Experiences of metformin

I've been diagnosed with PCOS and the gyneacologist that I saw wants me to start taking metformin. I have a normal bmi, an imbalance of hormones shown in blood tests and cysts on my ovaries shown in a scan, no periods since stopping the pill in Oct 2014.
It would be great to hear about people's experiences of using metformin, good and bad!

I have terrible PCO and was put on metformin years ago. Best thing I ever had. Word of advise though, take it before a meal. It will curb your appetite but if you take it after food you'll just feel constantly sick (wellI did) I was overweight though.
In regards to periods it seemed to kick them into a more regular cycle but nothing I could pinpoint and say "oh I'll have a period then" in advance. However it did allow me to conceive naturally when I'd been told since the age of 14 I'd never have children without fertility treatment.

Oh I'd go back on it in a heart beat btw but they won't prescribe it for PCO here Angry

I've been on metformin twice due to pcos, the first time was a few years back and I was fine on it and my periods went back to normal. I stopped taking it because we found out that my partner at the time of 7 years couldn't have kids so I thought it was pointless and that it didn't matter wether I had periods or not. I'm with someone new now and decided to give it another try, this time I felt really ill with it, bled a lot for the first week (tmi but lots of large clots) and was feeling sick and dizzy all the time, but I got pregnant within a month of starting it!! Could be coincidence though because I'm pregnant again now and this time I caught whilst I wasn't on metformin, haven't taken it since I was 12 weeks with my first pregnancy but it could have given me a kick start I guess
