Positive OPK 5 dpo?

I've been temping and using OPKs so am fairly sure I ovulated a week ago. Yesterday I noticed some EWCM so I took another test - Clearblue Advanced - and got a flashing smiley! What the heck? I've read that the CB Advanced also picks up estrogen so it might be that and not ovulation. DH is away for work so can't do anything about it. But now I'm worried I missed the window.

So - anyone got a positive OPK after ovulation? What did it mean?

One more thing - I haven't had any EWCM for the past 4-5 months, at O or otherwise.

I think your body can gear up to ovulate and not release an egg (giving you the chemical surge picked up on opks) and if an egg wasn't released try again later in the month - are you sure you actually ovulated? If you now have ewcm it sounds like you are now ovulating.
Also opks can pick up pregnancies and show positive if you are pregnant. This doesn't sound likely for you if second time round you have fertile cm.
good luck.

My temp dropped the same day I got a positive on the OPK the first time. So seems to be two strong signs that I O'ed?

I can't be 100% sure short of an ultrasound of course.

Really hoping for a false positive OPK rather than a late ovulation given DH is out of town Sad

how confusing for you.
As far as I know you can ovulate twice in the same 24 hour window but not at two completely different points in the same cycle. I ovulated at day 5 this month I think and so have been googling around this subject myself to find out what happens for the next 21 days....
I am sure you can have false positive opks. I don't temp so can't help you with that one though...

Yeah so I'm going to hope it's the OPK picking up estrogen rather than LH which doesn't mean I'm ovulating now. I haven't had a BBT dip since last week.

Anyone else had weird results from CB Advanced?

Hah just noticed your username hairstylisttoboris Grin

community.babycenter.com/post/a49848703/clearblue_advanced_opk_has_this_happened

So according to this link, someone called Clearblue who said that the Advanced OPK picks up estrogen and it's normal to get a "high fertility" reading in the luteal phase as a result because estrogen rises at that time. So I'm going to hope that's what happened to me!

Hi newbian,

I'm in the same boat but I use ICs.

My confusion is further compounded by FF saying I OV'd last Monday (day of first +ve OPK & EWCM) but I've had strong +ve OPK last 2 days & even more EWCM!

Had pain in left side & cramps today so I'm assuming recently OV'd & just a fluke I was warmer than usual last week, confusing FF.

The flashing smiley picks up oestrogen rise, the fixed smiley shows the LH surge, so you can get flashing smileys at other points in your cycle or if you are pg! I would trust temping over an opk and assume you ovulated a week ago.

Ladies the opks show LH and LH is always in your system so any time of the month you can get close to positive or even positive.

However ov usually has other signs eg temperature rise for 3 days after.

Also a positive opk doesnt actually mean you ovulated it just shows a LH surge. I was getting positive opks and cramps but blood test showed no ovulation.

I would dtd again in case though.

Thanks xBlueberry88x but unfortunately DH has been away for work since last week and we won't be back together for a few more days, so if the CB Advanced did pick up ovulation last week then we missed it.
