Has anyone eaten Paleo/Primal to improve fertility?

My acupuncturist has suggested I need to eat a higher protein diet than I do currently. I probably get my protein from eggs and cheese at the moment predominantly, with a little bit of meat sometimes.

I see Paleo mentioned a lot when it comes to fertility and I have been on it ages ago for over a year. Not so strictly that everything was organic and grass fed but I was very good at eating no grains and lost a fair bit of weight from memory.

Anyone thinking of doing the same or on a Paleo diet now?

Thanks xx

Hi newera
Sorry for replying but not having the answers.. I generally follow paleo but haven't read anything relating to fertility. I just think the connection is more between eating 'naturally' and not filling your body with processed crap full of sugar and salt. I wouldn't worry too much about following paleo exactly - I just think it's the most natural diet to the human body and studies prove good healthy diet relate to fertility. It's more about eating clean x

Ps. Do you mind telling me about your acupuncture? Why and any results etc? I'm currently having a course of treatment x

No results yet can't unfortunately. I have only been doing it 5 weeks though so I don't think that's enough time to say one way or the other. I know she talked about adding in some herbs that she burns or something next time. It had a word beginning with M but I was in a bit of a haze after treatment when she mentioned it.

Ah ok, I'm having it to regulate my cycle. It brought me down from 90 days to 56 days after 1st week. Hoping to ovulate next week and regulate to a 28dayish cycle I'd take 35 days

That's excellent! Well done!!

I feel a little bit of a fraud as I did soy this cycle so feel I kind of meddled and have no idea what it would have been like otherwise.

I'm not sure it really worked out so I think I will leave well alone this cycle and see how my next one fares.

I've also taken soy this month as I am pretty sure I'm not ovulating. My temperatures are just always all over the place and I have never had anything more than a shadow of a line on an OPK. I'm on CD10 today and nothing yet.

Have you seen any effects that you wouldn't normally have from soy?

Not sure if it's related or not but my SIL wasn't ovulating and my DH put her on paleo (she was also having acupuncture). She fell pregnant v quickly after.

I have a history of miscarriages and started Paleo about 18 months ago to lose weight. I fell pregnant last Christmas and was still doing paleo. I didn't miscarry.

I do think eating clean and primal, plus supplementing with vitamin D and magnesium, can help fertility.

Thanks allisgood. I know it is my age primarily but I just want to do all I can to try and help myself. Well I started today with no grains and that's going to be my first stepping stone. I'm not sure about cutting out dairy but I am starting to eat protein again as my diet has been mainly vegetables, fruit and bread with some eggs thrown in. But mainly bread if I'm honest, totally ridiculous!!

Can't I think soy is bloody powerful stuff, so i think it stands a good chance of helping you. What dosage are you on?

Well things I noticed this cycle were much less cervical mucus, which was a pain. I ovulated a day later which was good but lost two days at the end of my cycle which wasn't the plan and had menstrual cramps when AF arrived which I haven't had for years.

I was taking it to try and strengthen ovulation but I'm not convinced it did. It wouldn't stop me trying it again though in the future, I just think it's ideal for those who don't ovulate or ovulate really late, but for regular ovulators like myself I think it's swings and roundabouts.

I did 100,100,150,150,200 CDs 1-5. I hope it's powerful. God knows when I will ovulate, if I can at all. Yes I did read that perhaps should only take it of completely irregular like me.

My CM is also all over the place - have never had 'plenty' so to speak so I am struggling to monitor that too.

Oh well, I did read that I should expect ov 10 days after last dose of soy, so will hang on til cd15/16. having a really bad day today and just want to scream and cry myself to sleep
