Cycle 1 ~ first ever 2ww!

Hi all I know there are a couple of 2ww threads but hopefully you won't mind me starting my own one since it's my very first time!

I posted a month or two ago under a different name about how I was sad about having to wait until New Year for practical reasons to start trying and lots of you said stuff the practicalities just go for it!

So... If I am lucky enough to be one of those people who fall pg first time I will be finding out in two weeks when I'm on holiday!

I keep trying to tell myself there's no way I'll be that lucky but secretly thinking I might be?! Just hope I'm not too disappointed when reality may kick in...

Anyway I'm babbling now, just very excited and nervous and if anyone would like to keep me company over the next couple of weeks it would be great to have you around because the only person I have to share this with is Dh, he's great but I'm not sure he'd be my go to for things like symptom checking etc!

Hi I'm in the same situation, first ever 2ww. I've had spotting for the last 6 days though so I'm out for this month. AF is due Saturday then onto the next cycle.

Hope you are ok noarmani, I have a feeling the first time will hit me quite hard I'm not sure why, then I'll be ok-ish going forward because I know it can take a while...

All speculation of course. Who knows how I'll be. Good luck though- I'll look out for your name and be pleased for you when you get your bfp!!

This 2ww has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me. At first when I got some spotting I thought it was implantation and got my hopes up. But then it seemed to go on too long. Now I feel premenstrual and sad. Which is silly if I'm being logical about it as it was only the first month. But I suppose hormones are not logical!

Telling myself I need to chill the fuck out next month.

Where are you going on holiday? Good luck x

Hi ladies

Can I ask a daft question ... what does 2ww stand for? I'm new on here and the abbreviations can be baffling!

I'm also throwing caution to the wind for the first time - haven't got a clue what I'm doing RE ovulation and what not ... I've always had irregular periods which makes this whole TTC tricky to track.

Totally with you on trying to be chilled out about it all yet getting impossibly excited. I'm hoping to keep my spirits up through any neg tests ... surely only good hormones come from positive feelings!

Good luck, fingers crossed for us all!

Hi it's 2 week wait. The time between ovulating and waiting for your period

Report
CluelessDil · 12/11/2014 11:33

I know exactly what you mean Armani, this is my first 'proper' month trying but I had the potential to be pg a few months ago- I was absolutely gutted when it came to nothing even though there was such a small chance.

Not being pregnant then dealing with pmt is so hard. I can't believe the strength of people who have been dealing with it for years. Such a cliche but I'm sure it will all be worth it for us in the end.

I'm going to Nyc - very excited!!

Hi upnorth not a daft question I've been lurking around here for a little bit that the only reason I'm familiar with the lingo! 2ww stands for the two week wait you have from ovulation to your period being due. The time you may be pregnant but can't test yet! I too feel a bit clueless, I've got a period tracker app on my phone which helps a bit with knowing when I'm ovulating which may help, temping etc is still all too advanced for me at this stage!

Good luck, the 'just shaggers' thread seems a good place to hang out for us newbies but feel free to check in here too and keep me company on my 2ww!

Hi Clueless. This is my first 2ww as well (well it will be after the weekend - AF due 29th/30th nov). Me and DP aren't officially trying until the new year and but we're not using contraception at the moment either and are both fully aware I could get pregnant.

I'm anticipating the disappointment when AF shows her face as well but as you say, it could potentially be a long road!

Hi can I join? This is my first proper 2ww. Have my son who is 3 but I wasn't trying very long or aware of ovulation dates etc!
Af due on 18th but will try to hold off testing until next Saturday! My cycles have been a bit all over the place anyway. I got a smiley face on clearblue digital opk and dtd around then so got everything crossed that this is our month!!

SmileSmile I'm on my first 2ww too SmileSmile
AF due 24th November. This is my first proper month of trying after having my coil removed. Had a positive ovulation test Monday so fingers crossed it's worked first time!

So excited GrinGrinGrinGrin

The more the merrier!

In fact maybe you could answer some of the things I've been pondering today....

Are you planning on giving anything up during the 2ww? I'm not a big drinker but have a night out on Saturday and would normally have a couple of glasses of wine. I wouldn't miss it but is avoiding it pointless at this stage?

Also... If any of us are lucky enough to get pregnant this month... Have you thought about how you would manage to keep things quiet until 12 weeks. Christmas/new year might be tricky for raising suspicions.

Not actual issues... Yet! Just musing really. Can you buy fake anti biotic bottles anywhere Grin

Now more serious question, how are your other halves feeling about the 2ww? I'm a wee bit nervous for DH as I don't think he really believes it could take a long time, if ever, do your partners have more realistic expectations?

I won't be getting blind drunk during the next week or so, but will still have a few glasses of wine here or there...
If I'm lucky enough to be pregnant I will be pretending to have a uti over xmas! Think it'll be ok, actually other people hardly notice if you're not drinking as long as they're enjoying themselves! And when we have guests I will have pink fizz for them and fizzy pink shloer for me! Looks exactly the same! (You can tell I've given this way too much thought!!)

My DH is very laid back about the whole thing. When it happens it happens. Think it's a bit different for them as it's not their bodies, I'm symptom checking all the time! If we're not this month I won't be worrying next month, just enjoying xmas, then will get the opks back out in January with full force!!

clueless my DP is very realistic about almost everything (part of the reason why I love him - he never fails to calm me down when I worry about stuff). In his head he thinks this will take a while so he's quite relaxed about it and therefore I'm trying (really really really) trying to be too. Although I have warned him that if nothing happens after a few month I won't be able to hide my obsessive nature !

I'm just going to buy all my own drinks at the Christmas party and ask the bar staff to put the in vodka sized glass so it looks like I'm drinking, lol. If you don't tell people your not drinking 9 times out of 10 they won't even realise Smile

We are just "seeing how things go" but I'm slightly obsessed already lol!
I feel pregnant on the pill with my son so this actually trying to conceive stuff is all new to me!

How is every one coping with not taking a test yet? When do you plan to test? X

Good idea snowman I think you are right by announcing you are not drinking it may draw more attention....

I hope We all have to worry about this! Some good ideas if we do, I also love the pink shloer idea. Good thinking justdrive

I'm really busy at work just now and finishing up next week for hols is kind of taking my mind off things a tiny bit

At first I was excited that I may find out on holiday but now I'm worried I might be a little bit gutted I'm not, which would be pretty silly so I think I'll buy a first response and test on the 22nd which would be 4 days before I'm due.

Hmmm not sure. Alternative is I wait to see if af arrives and if not take a test as soon as I get home. Or I will get af on holiday...

Interesting to hear how your Oh's are doing. I'm pretty surprised at mine he is normally so logical and scientific, bordering on annoying but he just keeps smiling and saying he 'thinks we'll be fine' Confused its making me laugh... For now!

I rarely drink anyway, so thankfully that one is not really an issue for me. The thing I was a little unsure of is exercise - I'm a runner and often train HARD, but I've started wondering if putting my body through that much stress (we're talking on hands and knees, gasping for breath kinda training!) is it going to create a hostile environment in there? Any eggs are gunna freak out! I know when I'm (eventually) pg I'll have to curb the training, but I also don't want to push my body too far if it might cause implantation issues. Any experience with this?

Waiting till 12 weeks will be really tough - I'd have to fake an injury so running club buddies didn't catch on that I'm not racing! I also lift heavy things at work ... Presuming that's a no-go from the start? When do you have to tell employers?

Sorry ... Totally babbling! DP is snoring away next to me, I'm wide awake. DP is totally chilled out about TTC - though I'm not sharing my manic symptom spotting with him (yet!).

I know what you mean regarding exercise, I'm at the gym 4/5 times a week and do a lot of running. In fact today I was running next to a pregnant woman!

I know her so we were chatting a bit in the changing rooms and I was asking her how she was feeling, she said great! Her bump is pretty big too! I think the advice is if you have always been active it's fine to continue as you were for the first trimester. Beyond that you are encouraged to exercise just not get out of breath in the way you describe. You should still be able to carry on a conversation for example.

Being fit certainly shouldn't be a problem for getting pregnant as far as I'm aware in fact it seems to be encouraged?

I'd always ask your dr though which I'm sure everyone would. As for having to tell your work if you have manual tasks perhaps fairly early on? I'm guessing though but I would imagine in order to fulfil their duty of care they would need to know? As I work in an office I probably wouldn't share until 12 weeks

It's really encouraging seeing ladies with bumps running CluelessDil! I hope I can carry on as long as my body will let me (but no track sessions!)

I think AF is due around 21st ish .... So I might test on 22nd JustDrive .... Although I'd love to think I'd be able to hold out a bit longer. I read somewhere that early tests can often be negative even though you're pg? Not entirely sure though!

CluelessDil · 13/11/2014 22:17

There's so much conflicting advice I'm not sure I'd entirely trust an early test unless it was positive Grin

Also ... And apologies for upcoming TMI ..... Is anyone taking Folic Acid?
I started popping one a day when we gave up the condoms .... But all it's doing is making me fart! Like serious flatulence! It's a bit scary to trump like a man ....

That's what I keep thinking - will people especially friends and family just know?

In some ways I think maybe having a few people close know might be better as if something happened I'd probably need their support? I don't have my mum but I reckon my mil would be on to me!

As for folic acid, sorry upnorth but that gave me a much needed laugh! I've been sporadically taking the seven seas trying for a baby supplement but haven't noticed any windy side effects! Must get better at taking them everyday though.

As an aside when I bought them in boots the lady , who was very nice, held up a little outfit and said 'maybe you'll be back in buying this' there was no harm in her at all but I felt so 'exposed' probably not the right word for it but you might know what I mean!

You could be right - maybe having another woman close to you knowing, one who has been through it all could be a good thing? A bit of support and reassurance. DP/DH are great, but they're as clueless as us!

I see where you're coming from with the boots lady - sure her heart was in the right place ... But not very discreet ... You could have been shopping with MIL!
