finally got a BFP now Dr's saying I need a scan?

After 3.5yrs TTC I finally got a BFP last night. As I have some fertility tests booked in for next week, I decided to ring the Dr's this morning to check what I should do about them... The Dr asked me loads of questions over the phone and I mentioned I've had stomach cramps non stop for the past week. He worked out I must be approx 5wks now and then put me on hold for what seemed like forever. He then tells me that he needs to get another Dr to call me back at 1pm as they are concerned about my symptoms this early into pregnancy, he mentioned an emergency referral to the early pregnancy unit to do a scan, but that the other Dr will explain more later... Is this normal? Should I be worried? I was on such a high this morning and now feeling a little deflated and concerned!

Hi there, I am a newbie to this site, but have had early scans before. I would imagine the reason they are referring you to a scan is because you mentioned cramping and they want to make sure everything is fine. Normal periody type pains tend to be fine, but cramps (painful cramps) do need looking at. If you don't have any bleeding, then try not to worry, get the scan done and enjoy seeing your little bean :)

Thanks keeweewoopoo I've got an appointment tonight to get a physical examination just to check everythings alright, and pending the results of that, they'll either refer me to have a scan or refer me to the usual maternity clinic. Fingers crossed for me x
