Agnus Castus - Yay or Nay??

Hi all,

Am new to this and am ttc almost 10 years after my first child. My partner and I both have some fertility issues - my cycle is all over the place, probably only 5 cycles a year max. I am currently on Day 41 of my first cycle since ttc. I had a copper coil previously which my Doc advised will not have affected my cycle. My partner has a very low sperm count, which we are working on improving atm.

For about 3 weeks, I have been taking Agnus castus to encourage regular cycles and ovulation, after a friend told me about it. However, yesterday I came across something on the internet where it suggested that AC may stop ovulation?

Does anybody have any experience of using AC or any useful information. I don't know whether I should carry on!

Thank you in advance.

Sent my cycle really loopy. But then at 42 my cycle is loopy anyway and i don't hold out much hope. DHEA and 50 mg b6 did more for me and helped me get ds.

I would not self medicate with AC as in some cases it can make underlying hormonal imbalances like PCO worse. If your cycles are irregular it is certainly in your interests to determine why that is particularly as you are now trying to conceive. You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

How was it determined that your man has a very low sperm count?. It seems that from this he has seen some sort of specialist previously.
Also simple remedies like vitamins and such like may not do anything at all to improve sperm count overall so I would not waste much money on such things.

I've taken AC before from CD1 - ov day. It has never made any impact on my cycle and sadly no bfp either. However, its not recommended to take it during or after ov. I know my cycles so knew when to stop but I don't think its recommended if you don't know when you are likely to ovulate. Maybe try contacting a naturopath if you're interested in trying AC again, and perhaps try some opk's and a thermometer for a few cycles to give you a better indication of when to stop taking it. Good luck
