HycoSy - did you have antibiotics?

I'm having a HycoSy next week. Recommended to take painkillers before, but mixed messages on antibiotics. Does anyone have any experience - did you get given them before, after, not at all?

Thanks for any advice.

Antibiotics are recommended - either before or some units give them to you whilst you're there.

I didn't have antibiotics, before or after. DEFINITELY have painkillers before. I forgot and decided to just brave it out - big mistake. It can be quite painful. Make sure you don't have to try and rush off afterwards, as you'll need some time to rest after. When I went for mine they gave me biscuits and tea.

I wasn't given antibiotics, but definitely don't skip the painkillers! Mine was very painful (but my tubes went into spasm apparently :|) and the doctor was completely non-sympathetic. Don't wanna scare you but just so you're warned!

In my notes, the doctor put "she experienced mild discomfort." If Id known at the time, I would have made him experience some "mild discomfort", the bastard.

No antibiotics for me. As the other ladies have said pain killers are a must!!

Thanks everyone. I had the HyFoSy today. Apparently my hospital don't do antibiotics (unless you get an infection). Did take the painkillers. And had tea and biscuits after. Went ok - doctore was a bit abrupt but forewarned is forearmed! Thanks for the advice Thanks
