Conception

Anovulatory cycle

Background - had an early miscarriage last August. Took a while to conceive (15-18 months). Got referred to obs/gynae consultant who asked us to come back after 6 months if no luck conceiving.

Went to consultant who has requested bloods and semen analysis for DH. (Had these done twice in the past all fine). Have had regular 33/34 cycles since the miscarriage, so in light of the previous results, and regular periods I thought all would be ok!

Except... I am now on day 36 of my cycle (very late) and Sod's law I didn't bother with opks. My day 21 result has come back as a big fat 1!!! (Taken 7 days after ovulation on day 28).

Went to GP to request more bloods today to see if I have ovulated later, GP was very blasé about it (results hopefully tomorrow). Said it looks like I've had an anovulatory cycle and that's it's not that uncommon! In the last 3 years I probably have had 3 cycles of 42-47 days in length, I'm guessing these are anovulatory??

So my question to you wise women on mumsnet is when the fuck do I expect my period to arrive? I am going on holiday next week which I meticulously planned to avoid my period Hmm. GP has given me northisterone to delay my period even further I if I want for my jollies but the side effects are putting me off especially as we're desperately trying to conceive!

Also had some spotting on day 27 which I thought was implantation bleeding Hmm - was this a 'fake' period?
Day 3 FSH and LH ration etc fine. I don't see consultant till mid April either.

Could the cd 27 possibly have been ovulation bleed and that's what's holding af up? Do u know how long your lp is?

Hello babyrose, you make a good point it probably was an ovulation bleed, I've never had this before though?!

A bit annoyed as we didn't dtd at the right times aaaarggh so another month is wasted!

Bumwad, ive never had ovulation bleed before either, until after our mc (also in aug/sept) how odd. had it past few cycles now tho.

id say your period would be due in next week then? mc doesnt half fuck things up (i bled for 15 weeks solid after!! so only just started having proper cycles this year cos of norethiterone and clomid)

lord knows what im trying to say, but anyway. good luck. xx

My luteal phase is around 13/14 days. So if I ovulated on day 27 would make me have my period this Saturday.

However does anybody know what progesterone levels are supposed to be 1/2/3 dpo? As I had day 28 test at it came back as 1. Is the progesterone rise supposed to gradual then peaking at 7dpo??

I hope I helped! I started having ovulation bleed after (a good while after) the pill and still have it now.

Sorry not sure about progesterone levels and stuff.

Yes progesterone rises gradually, see for example upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2a/MenstrualCycle2_en.svg

Bumping for EnglishAbroad!

Thanks blamber. I guess I am now towards the end of my 2ww at CD42! I don't think the spotting on CD27 was ovulation as I had progesterone checked on CD29 and that came back as 1, so it was probably CD30 or CD31 (I felt like crap and was very teary on CD31).

Only issue is that due to having to rule out pregnancy before I take norethisterone my GP did some more bloods on CD40 of hcg and progesterone. Hcg came back as nothing as expected but progesterone came back as 45!! Now according to your graph blamber my progesterone level should be dropping now so I think my first result of 46 on CD36 wasn't taken 7 days after ovulation it was probably 5 days.

Anyway it is bloody confusing and I have pretty much written off this cycle. On to the next!!

I've had cycles as long as nearly 80 days because of anovulation and generally don't have a clue when I'm going to bleed. Its fun timesHmm

Feel for you ToAvoid it's the waiting that's a bummer!

Broody my cycles are very regular most of the time, only off by a day or two. I wouldn't have known if id ovulated if it wasn't for the blood test! I have had about 4 longish cycles in the past 4 years (max 47days) and I'm guessing these are the ones I ovulated very late. I wonder why my body decides to do this! My GP just assumed it was anovulatory prior to the blood tests so I think the rule is to not assume you haven't ovulated and keep dtd!

Thanks Bumwad - i guess I just have to wait and see. Drinking ginger tea by the gallon as I read that it can bring af on!! Been doing opks in a hope that i may not have ovulated yet. But quite frankly would just like af to turn up!

Generally I find if I relax it brings AF. So those few much treasured days off work or on a weekend away. Head off for a fun weekend with family or perhaps to a friends wedding....Hmm
