TTC and concerned about PCOS even though Dr says not

Hi,

I have just joined and this is my first time posting. I have been browsing for a little while and have found all the posts really helpful. I have a history of heavy, irregular periods and acne since age 14. I went on Dianette at 18 for 2 years, followed by Yasmin for 9 years. I came off the pill last March and started TTC in September. No luck so far. Since I have come off the pill, I have had bad acne on my face, neck/jawline and back. I have been using Quinoderm off and on. In the past I've had Zineryt but am reluctant to use anything while TTC. 2 years ago, due to ongoing acne issues, I had an internal scan and apparently my ovaries looked normal so the Dr said I did not have PCOS. While on the pill my periods were normal and regular, but since coming off, cycles have varied from 28-46 days. I have been using Clearblue Ovulation sticks since December and have had positive readings last month (CD21) and this month (CD14). I am getting stressed about not being pregnant yet and know it's not been that long (5 months) but also am concerned due to the other issues. I am currently 10 days post ovulation but had some cramping yesterday so wouldn't be surprised if I got my AF this weekend (due on Sunday) :(

I have not seen the Dr about TTC as they are not very helpful and do not seem concerned/to care. Should I go back about acne etc? I know they won't care about TTC until it's been a year.

It's all top secret so I have no one to talk to and DH doesn't seem that bothered about any of this except DTD! He gets annoyed if I go on about it and says I am stressing necessarily (which I probably am). Everyone around me seems to be getting pregnant (I am 30) and I just feel very fed up about it all.

You can probaby get a pcos diagnosis independent of ttc as it can affect other aspects acne, weight gain etc.
So i would see gp to get a cd3 test to see if your hormones are out.
Were you on the pill when you had internal scan?
As the pill can help regulate you.
You need a testosterone test too to see if that is high as it can cause the acne.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes I thought that which is why I went for the scan even though I was not TTC at the time. Dr said I could have scan but not blood tests as the pill affects them. I was on the pill when I had the scan. Tbh the Dr was quite dismissive, when I asked about getting a PCOS diagnosis, she looked me up and down and said 'I don't think so', then went on to say I am too slim (I am size 8/10). However my old Dr told me he thought the acne was caused by PCOS (I was 18 at the time). I might go back soon after my next AF, perhaps try to see someone else at the surgery. I asked for the woman last time as I thought she might be more sympathetic but maybe I'll see one of the male Drs this time. Thanks

Thanks for the replies, it makes me feel like I am not just being a hypochondriac. I really feel there is a problem, I have never had a regular period in my life when off the pill, have always had acne and greasy skin. I may not be overweight but I find it very difficult to lose weight. I have put on 1/2 stone over the last 18 months and can't shift it no matter what I do. I think I will definitely go back after my next AF and try to get some blood tests, as now I am off the pill I can do them. As I am 30 I want to find out if there is a problem so I know how to approach it. I didn't know that you shouldn't use the Clearblue OV tests if you have PCOS. I had felt reassured that the last 2 positives at least meant I had ovulated but now I am worried that I haven't. Oh well, off to the Drs I go. Fingers crossed that they're more helpful this time. Thanks everyone
