Been TTC now for several months and have discovered I have a short LP. (10 days). I didn't even know what one was when TTC #1 but now I seem to have worked myself up into a tiz and convinced myself it's not going to happen.

What I really need is for some stories of conceiving despite having a short LP. And any advice as to what I can do about it. Thanks.

I don't think 10dpo is considered too short, I thought under 10 was considered short but doctors would say it doesn't matter if you ask them.

I assume you are not breast feeding still?

Have you had a thyroid test it can go after having a baby

Sebsmummy- no. Stopped bfing about 7 months ago.

Naty1- no idea at all about thyroids. No doubt I will now start googling like crazy.

I had a short LP whilst breast feeding. I also had my thyroid tested and it was fine. My LP went from 9 days to 12 after I stopped bfing. I've recently had a mc so im terrified about how my cycles are going to go when I get a period again. I suspect I shall be back to square one.

I have heard people say good things about b6 and Vitex. Could be worth a shot.

Vitamin b6 can help

Thanks. Been taking b6 for a month now and am going to start vitex hopefully today. Any ideas how long it takes to work? If I could just extend it by one day it could make a difference!

I conceived twice with a 9-10 day LP. I took Agnus Castus (along with B100 Complex, and Dong Quai) which brought my ovulation forward but my LP pretty much stayed the same (which was good as I had more opportunities to try as my cycle was much shorter (about 24 days) . It's made out to be a problem but I don't think it necessarily is.

I havent heRd of dong quai. I'll add it to my cocktail of vit b6 , agnus cadtus, folicacid and evening primrose! Shall soon have to buy shares in holland and Barrett.

Glad to hear you managed to conceive twice that does give me hope.

I've conceived 3 times with a 6-7 Shock day LP. 2 didn't stick but one did. I know this sounds impossible but it's true, I was tracking cycles and was under the care of a consultant for the one that stuck so had scans to track follicles and all that stuff. I think 10 days is fine but I can understand why you're worried, good luck.

Bornofrustration sorry to hear of MCs:-(. I wonder did it have to do with short LP? But so happy to hear that you did have a successful pregnancy. Yet another story of hope.

Im sure short lp can be fine but suppose it probably depends if there is a cause for it
Eg thyroid problems causing short lp and can increase miscarriage.
I imagine the same with low progesterone

My luteal phase is only ten days, best as I can tell (I usually know when I ovulate because of cramps and increased discharge). I conceived easily two years ago, at nearly 39, and had a normal, healthy pregnancy.
About to try again.

But usually I've heard the luteal phase should be 14 days. Either 12 or 14, I think.

Yes I'd love to have 12-14 days basia but glad you conceived easily. Good luck for #2!

Hi Cnix I am just the same, with everything you said! Also ttc#2. My cycles have become a bit irregular the past 4 or 5 months or so, and my LP is getting shorter. I stopped breastfeeding well over a year ago and haven't been on any contraception so can't think of a reason why this is happening (stress of ttc probably!) I am going to see when AF arrives this month, and if my LP is short again I think I will start using vitB6 to begin with, I have heard positive things from it. I have got a Drs appointment next week though so maybe I will mention it to them and see what they think. Hopefully 10 days will be long enough for you to conceive, has it ever been any shorter or is it quite regular for you?

Tbh I've only just become aware of a what a luteal phase is in the last few month. I guess it's because everyone on here talks about the 2ww and I always remember thinking I was lucky that I didn't have to wait that long! I think if nothing happens for us this month I'm going to go to the drs too although I've heard they don't really take it seriously in general. Good luck gingerbreadBabyplease x

I've heard that too, some Drs don't even believe in it. Maybe if I suggest to them that I've done some research and am thinking of taking vit b6, just see what they say from that.
I have only heard about it from reading the threads on here, I always felt lucky to have short cycles too, not as long to wait to start trying again, but now I wish they lasted a few days longer! In a way I sort of think it could be a relief to discover that that is the problem with not conceiving as hopefully it could be quite straightforward to fix with bvitamins or other supplements I've heard of, but I could be wrong!
I will let you know how I get on anyway, good luck to you too x
