Can lubricants damage sperm??

My sister in law has been ttc for 11months to no avail. She said today she's been using ky jelly and although I didn't say this to her, I'm sure that can't be helping.

This is my first month ttc and I'm using pre-seed. I don't want to tell anyone we're trying tbh so haven't as yet mentioned it. But is the thread title correct or is it just that pre-seed "assists"?

My understanding is that normal lube/ky jelly slows them down rather than damaging them as such. If she wants to use lube then yes pre-seed or conceive plus are the better choices.

My understanding is that products such as pre-seed and conceive plus are an alternative for people who use lube as regular brands aren't great for ttc. Not sure that they assist if you don't use lube ordinarily but someone more informed may be along soon!

We TTC for 2 months using normal lube then the 3rd month switched to preseed and I got pg straight away. I have heard that normal lubes do inhibit sperm, but this isn't publicised as it's no where near enough for a reliable contraceptive effect and would be dangerous if people were thinking 'oh it's ok we're using KY' as a contraceptive.

Oh actual damage? That's really interesting, thanks for the link OldLady!

Wow thanks for the link! Here's hoping pre-seed has done its job for dp and I Smile. I shall show my sister in law the article

I'm reading a book "what to expect before you're expecting" and it says that all lubes can damage sperm and some in particular are "sperm killers" even saliva is damaging apparently! : /

I also heard this about saliva! Will need to stop all that then!

Yup saliva.slows them down too. It got so DH knew where I was in my cycle based on whether or not saliva was involved! Wink

Yes, apparently anything extra down there can affect the CM. They even reference people using olive oil and egg whites as lubricants?! Never heard of that!!

Congratulations Pink!

We do not usually use lubricant; am I correct in assuming pre-seed won't make any difference in our case?

We don't either! First time.

It was highly recommended by a friend who herself and another lady she knows got pregnant 1st time using it. The other lady was trying for over a year.

When I bought it I was disappointed as it seemed from the packaging it was an alternative for those using other brands but thought we'd give it a go ??
