Clearblue digital OPK – smiley face (peak fertility) on day 8?

Has anybody used these and what are your experiences of them?

I?ve never been able to detect any natural signs of ovulation, so I tried unsuccessfully with the cheap ones bought on the Internet and never had any positive result from these, so started this month with the Clearblue digital ones (the newer version with the dual hormone indicator that is supposed to tell you your four most fertile days).

I only started testing yesterday on day 7 and got a low fertility result, but this morning (day 8) I got a smiley face! However, the test seems to have skipped the flashing ?high fertility? symbol and gone straight to the3 ?peak fertility? smiley face.

It just seems a bit early in the month to ovulate as the test would mean that I?d be ovulating in the next day or two (so, around day 10, I guess). Does that sound rather early? My cycle is usually 29 days, give or take a day. Or are these tests a bit inaccurate?

I'm starting to think these tests make the whole babymaking thing a lot more stressful than it already is!

ClearBlue ovulation tests are VERY accurate. I used the ovulation sticks and a fertility scan during one of my months of TTC confirmed that they were bang on.
And it is absolutely possible to ovulate that early, a lot of people do.
Best of luck with TTC

Thanks TakingTheStairs!

Ooh, I hope so, it was such a pleasant surprise to see the smiley face after all the negatives I got with the last brand.

Only thing is, DP working late tonight so not sure what time he'll be home to dtd. Hopefully not too late.

On another thread someone said first time you use them they always say low as they have to have somewhere to test from so of you would have tested earlier you would have had the flashing ones??!! I have no idea but what someone else said!! I had my first flashing one today so fingers crossed!!

Hi Bambi! Think we met on the other thread? Am hopeful that this is the case, as got a positive on my cheap opk two days later. Managed to dtd for the 2 days of the cb smiley and the cheap positive, so here's hoping!! I seem to remember from your other post that you've got the flashing smiley face, so good luck getting your fixed face soon. It seems to be quite common for a lot of women to get more than two days of the flashing face, so hopefully it's just giving you extra days where you might get lucky before you peak! Smile

Hey. I started using them this month. Went straight to peak at cd 11 which was strange for me as usually ovulate late. I decided to keep testing and a few days later got a day of high flashy ones and then another peak and all other signs I was ovulating. I was in a cycle after mc so maybe that's why I got two lh surges.

I started using the dual hormone about 3 days ago, forgot to test yesterday morning so tested around mid afternoon and got high fertility but then read on instructions you could get a false high if you test mid day tested again this morning and it was a high again do the tests continue to be high until I get a peak or will it go back to a low?

Bambi27 · 12/06/2013 08:13

I have had high for 6 days now! Just used last stick! Lady on phone told me she thought I had missed my peak! So the fact it didn't return to 'low' she didn't seem to even be concerned about so thinking maybe it doesn't return until after a peak?? Sorry I'm guessing really but from what helpline said...

Hi ladies, this post seems to be a few months old now and I am considering using this cb product. I was hoping you's could give me an update on your experience with it. Thank you in advance.

I have been using them for four months. They are ridiculously expensive, but I really like them.
Not everyone gets the "normal" 2 days flashing before the peak endings, but they have been very accurate for me.
I have used in combination with temping, which has eloped me, as I have had one false reading because I had a month with so LH surges (if I hadn't temped, I wouldn't have known as I got a peak reading ).
After the first month, I started to use the IC opks as well, to learn how to read them, with the intention of moving to IC opks only. I haven't been able to get the consistency or reliability out of the IC opks, so I will continue with the Cb OpKs.

HTH

Thankyou Jaykay987 & babyrose for your reply. I have been using basic opk's for a few months now and received no positive readings. I am 2 days overdue my period today and was feeling hopeful until I got a negative result on 2 PT's. I am now considering using a more expensive/reliable brand of opks as I am worried I am not ovulating at all. I wish yous both luck.this baby Making game just isn't as easy as I thought l

Hiya, I moved onto a different thread and I will see if I can find the link for you later this evening (am on ipad and not sure how to cut and paste a link from here - I think it's called 'Advice re opk: very early smiley face' (or something like that - it might have slipped down to the second page thou, as we've had a bit of a lull lately). But we're still on the thread, if you'd like to join us? Smile

It's very common to get many days of the flashing smiley though, unfortunately. I did find that they helped me to get more in tune with my body's own ov signals though, so I don't use the CB ones anymore (plus they were pricey). We've just had a couple of months off ttc due to a house move, but we're back onboard now and wishing you lots of baby dust! Smile

I thoroughly recommend them. Really helps you to focus when you are ovulating and look for other key signs like cm.
First time I used them I got the flashing smiley for 5 days before I had my fixed. This cycle just 2 days of flashing before fixed.

Thankyou charleylarie & allhatnicknamesgone,
I am TTC#1, cycle2 UCL23-26 CD3, I know this is quite soon to concerned but I was worried about becoming obsessed with expensive OPKs if they were not reliable. I think from your advice I will give them a try from this cycle, I have also started to record my body temp so here's hoping I will crack the code of ovulation and a BFP soon. Wishing you both all the luck in the world Smile

Hey,

Just thought Id shed some knowledge on this subject. I believe to get a flashing smiley, it's measuring you estrogen levels and when you get a fixed smiley it's measuring your LH levels. Hope this helps. I have been using them alongside my cbfm and the first time you use the dual hormone one, you will get a clear circle but then after that it's starts measuring.

Hello ladies,
I am just giving an update on my progress as it may be useful to others who are on the same quest.
I went on the hunt for clear blue opks in my local chemist with no success. I did however come across Boots Pharmaceuticals ovulation test kit - 20 tests - One month supply for £24.99. I thought to myself BARGIN!! But i was slighty disappointment that I wasn't going to get smiley faces, just pink lines.
Anyway as it turns out I got a very clear Positive on my CD12. These tests are extremely easy to read and at half the price of clear blue opks I would recommend them to others who are TTC.
I would also like to add that I done the tests at 3pm everyday with no fluid intake for 2 hours prior and was able to see an increase in lh levels each day. Now I know that if the result lines are lighter than the test line this is a negative result and that there is always a possibility of getting an lh reading as its always present within the body but I definitely noticed an increase in colour as my ovulation date approached.
I am just elated to see and feel that my body is coming back to its old self after such a short period of time from getting the mirena coil removed.
I am also recording my bbt and cm but as this is my 1st month of trying these methods I am finding these systems hard to understand.
Sorry if you feel that I am rambling but this may be helpful to someone.

Once you get a fixed you don't need to test again, you should DTD for those days also.
