Does this sound like an anovulatory cycle to you?

Usually ov around cd12/13, but my cycles are irregular. This month from cd 8-12 I had fertile cm and my opks were slowly getting darker. I got an almost positive on cd 11, so was expecting a + on cd 12, but got a -. Didn't have any signs of ov so assumed that I was having delayed ov this month (which is common for me).

Started getting fertile cm cd23-25 but opks where all over the place, i.e. one day a strong line, next day much weaker, then stronger again - I was testing around the same time every day.

On the evening of cd 29 (last Weds) I had pinkish cm, which I thought might be my period starting, but it never did. Had a little brown blood on Thursday and nothing yesterday or today and no cm.

I'm wondering if I just didn't ovulate this cycle and that the bleeding I had was estrogen breakthrough bleeding? If anyone has any experience or knowledge of this it would be really helpful. I've been trying for nearly 7 months now and I'm worried my crazy cycles mean there's something wrong with me.

Could it be implantation bleeding? It might be helpful for you to do your temps as well to confirm ovulation. Have a look at Fertilty Friend .com if you haven't already (but don't get obsessed!)

Thanks for replying south.

I did wonder whether it could be implantation bleeding but iirc implantation happens 5-12 days after conception? We didn't have sex this month for 12 days due to us working odd shifts and me having the flu, so for it to have been ib, either I implanted at 4dpo/16 dpo or the sperm somehow survived in my body for 6 or 7 days. None of which sounds possible. I tested yesterday and got a bfn but will test again tomorrow just in case.

I already chart using fertility friend, but don't temp because I work crazy shifts and I found I was discarding more temperatures than I kept. I usually have quite clear signs that I've ovulated so not temping has never been a problem before, but this month has been so confusing.

I now have light af-type cramps, so god knows whats wrong with me.

It is possible that you have not ovulated, or you missed your ovulation.

I have PCOS and never had any breakthrough bleeding during any of my epic long cycles - longest to date 6 months!

You may want to talk to your GP and ask for referral tests. Some Drs won't consider it until you've been trying for at least a year, but if you have erratic cycles it is worth asking.

Thank you Frankelly I might make an appointment to see him this week then. I am worried because its been 10 months since I stopped the pill and I thought I would be ovulating normally by now. I've noticed that alternating cycles I'm fine and everything's normal, but every other month I'm not ovulating properly. So one month will be 44 days long and the next will be 24. I only have a few cycles to compare though, so it might be nothing. Maybe worth seeing whether they will do anything though.

Trinpy,

Irregular cycles are indicative of hormonal imbalances;in this regard polycystic ovaries is a common culprit. Another possible cause is problems with the thyroid gland.

Temp charting is of no benefit at all if the menstrual cycle is irregular; you just end up with a chart that is nigh on impossible to interpret. Also with irregular cycles you are less likely to be ovulating regularly if at all (it is quite possible to have periods without ovulating). A 24-44 day cycle would certainly be seen as an irregular cycle.

Would seek medical advice asap and insist on being referred to a subfertility unit. You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

There is no evidence to suggest that the pill is responsible for failure to ovulate but what it can do is mask underlying hormonal imbalances that have always been present.

Would not use OPKs; again these are of no benefit at all if the cycle is irregular.

Would not keep pg testing etiher; seeing repeated negatives can be very disheartening.

Thats really helpful Attila.

I took a pg test today, just in case, because I'm on antibiotics for acne atm and they're not safe to take if I'm pregnant. Won't bother taking doing any more though.

Definitely get what you're saying about the opks. I was thinking about getting a CB fertility monitor, then thought: why bother? It would just give me day after day of highs and frustrate me even more.

Before the pill my cycles were fairly regular, but I was a teenager then, so obviously wasn't paying much attention.

Hi trinpy I have been lurking as I also think I have had an anovulation cycle but have no idea.......

I'm a currently 16 days late for my period and I am testing all the time and getting BFNs. I had an mmc in Nov and had to had a DnC but was desperate to start trying again. I normally have 32 day cycles but today is day 49.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.....sorry for hijacking your thread trinpy

Hi wardy.. Am going to continue with the hijack of the original post...! I'm in a similar boat... Almost a week late as I think AF was due to arrive last Monday. Have tested a few times in the past few days and all BFN. I feel a bit strange but nothing out f the ordinary so don't feel like I "know" that I am pregnant.
I stopped Bf DS1 in mid dec and got my first period on CD 30. It was my first period in about 2 years as I Bf for a long time and thy didn't come back until I stopped. Anyway, my due date of mon was based on this first cycle so it's not the most accurate but I don't have anything else to go by.. So very good chance I might have not ovulated at all, or have very long cycle this time (a currently on CD 36).. Or could be pregnant and not have enough hormones or something like that. Am trying very hard to just go with it but I find I am thinking about it all the time!

Hi littleone sorry what's bf?

I know exactly how you feel it's all I think about and e em though I think it's unlikely for me that at 16 days late that i am pg but getting BFNs I can't help but have a ring bit of hope.

I have a doctors apt tomorrow I am going to insist on a blood test, I think or hope that will finally put my mind at rest a little bit.

I'm the same as you this is my first cycle since mmc so that could well be the problem.
