Would anyone like to hear about my weird periods?

Minor TMI alert, but I reckon on this thread anything pretty much goes. Grin

About three months ago I had a bright red bleed lasting two days, in the middle of my cycle, following by two weeks of brown staining.

Then nothing for about two weeks, then two days of bright red bleeding again, followed by a day of nothing, then a period lasting 3 days.

This month my period has been the same, two days of bright blood (I'd normally start with brown staining) followed by this time two days of nothing, followed by a normal period.

I'm not freaked out, guessing it's just one of those things (have PCOS), but how do I count my cycle? From the start of the two days of bright blood?

I would get this medically checked out; any bleeding between periods should always be investigated further.

PCOS certainly does mess up your cycles but this may not be the cause of what is happening now with regards to the bleeding hence first paragraph.

I think this would certainly warrant going to see your GP for advice. It might 'just' be a ruptured ovarian cyst, but it might be something else. Get it looked into; have a scan. You can get medical advice about judging your cycle at the same time.

Thanks. Darn it, was hoping someone would breezily say "oh, all my periods are like that and I have a million children".

Have a gynae consultant appointment due in a couple of months, so at least I'm already in the referral process, will see what happens in the meantime, so at least I'll be able to build up a pattern (or not) to tell him about.

Hi Zola, my periods are not like that but weird periods can end in good news. Or at least, I had almost no periods in my 20s and those I did have were completely irregular (underweight) but now I'm 40 I do have a little kid (now trying for no 2 - despite irregularity last month too). I know totally different, but just since you asked, I thought I'd add a bit of helpful breeze ;). Best of luck with the gynae consultant.

What are your tactics, GoBy, just DTD as much as is humanly possible? Grin

First time - hmm: DTD 3 x the week after period (which may constitute humanly possible these days. Grin I was quite freaked out that I even fell pregnant (was sure I wouldn't/couldn't). This time we're only in month 2 of ttc - and based on last month's freakily weird cycle, sod's law, I've tried one of those clear blue fertility monitor thingies. Have you tried one? Useful since they tell you whether and when you're ovulating.

As for getting a regular cycle in the first place, in my case it was entirely down to eating enough in my 30s. But of course we have different issues - I was underweight hence my lack of periods. There must be lots of people on here with advice for PCOS? All I know is a (v rational!) friend of mine with PCOS went for acupuncture and now has a 1 year old. Rootin for you.

PS and of course you're going to see the gynae. SO any serious issues such as ruptured cysts can be looked into. Tracking your cycle in a diary and showing exact dates is perfect - will help gynae enormously.
