I'm really sorrytilly - I don't know what the effects of a hsg are, so I'm just replying based on what I know. Sorry in advance if I am ignorant to anything. Just telling you what I've managed to glean as there isn't much on this.

I had exactly the same kind of bleeding this month what would have been about 2/3 dpo. Mine lasted for about 5 hours and gradually became more mucusey. The blood was quite a bright red. I'm guessing that this would be new blood as old blood is darker or brown even because it doesn't have as much oxygen in it. Whether this matters or not, I'm not sure. Confused I've also never had it before, so I was naturally concerned. I believe some women often get spotting as part of their cycle - I don't and have never had any.

I've done a fair bit of research via Dr Google and a fertility book I have and it would seem that unless its accompanied by other symptoms (e.g. high tempertaure, severe cramps), then it's usually suggested that you don't have anything major wrong with you and it is part of your cycle. Which part it is though, is the tricky one.

I found out it could be anovulatory bleeding - when there is too much estrogen and it's not properly regulated by the other hormones to induce ovulation, so the womb lining sheds its topmost layer because it becomes too heavy to support itself. Apparently the release of other ovulatory hormones (I can't remember which, but I can look it up if you want me to) would have prevented this from happening.

The second option is that perhaps it is implantation bleeding. Now, before everyone jumps on me, I know that all the medical guides say that you need at least 7 days for the egg to travel down the tubes and find its place for implantation, but I've read so many stories of women who have had implantation bleeding at 3 and even 2 dpo, who have actually been pregnant and have gone on to full term. You could say that these women might have got confused with when they ovulated and ovulated earlier than they thought. This is a possibility and true of many I expect, but there are so many that I wonder if the opposite might also be true and you can implant much earlier than the minimum 7 days expected. After all, not many women have the magical 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 14. They can't all have their dates wrong can they?

Anyway, I may be entirely wrong - if so, I hold my hands up, but this is what I discovered. And I personally would like to believe it is the latter just so it doesn't deflate me entirely for this month.

Anyway, I should be able to tell you for sure soon as I had a blood test yesterday to check for ovulation and the resuts should be back by next week. I'll let you know.

Sorry this is so long, but these things sometimes need tonnes of explanation! Hope this helps you.

P.S. Option number 3 was offered by my DH. Sorry - TMI alert here. He wondered if he had been too, ahem, vigorous in DTD that morning and ruptured a blood vessel inside or banged too hard against my uterus Blush. He could of course be correct, but the bleeding started about 8 hours after DTD, so I am a little sceptical as I think it would have happened straight away. Also the increasing presence of mucus makes me think otherwise too.

Gah - sorry - I meant cervix, not uterus. Fool. Should probably go to bed now!

Thank you for the response bear face, wish my body would just work properly! Sad
I've had my hormone levels checked but may get them done again just to be sure. X

Me too Sad, but try not to worry. Like I said, it could be implantation bleeding. Smile
