Does BFing change your LP??

Hey ladies.

I'm not exactly ttc but am keeping track of cycles for when we do ttc in 2013.

My last cycle was 8th nov until 28th nov and cd1 was this cycle was 29th nov. which makes my last cycle 21 days. Before my last pregnancy I OVd on cd16/17 and had a 12 day LP. My last cycle I think I OVd cd13 (had ewcm on cd11 and cd12) and had cramps on cd13 which I think was OV. But then I only had a 8 day LP.

Is this normal?? If so will it go back to normal when not BFing?

Thanks xxx

I had something similar, cutting down all feeds apart from early morning one seemed to normalise cycles

Yes it most def does. The prolactin inhibits progesterone which means AF comes earlier than it should.
Come join us on the TTC whilst breastfeeding thread, we are getting experts on the effects bf has on out cycles and are all charting etc. Smile
I've had a shorter LP issue and am trying vit b6 50 mg per DAy this cycle as its supposed to help! Smile

I definitely have shorter cycles before too. After jakey mentioned about the shorter LP, I went back to my fertility friend and it confirmed it as well. I was using ewcm, not bbt, to chart however. But I think jakey mentioned the minimum safe LP is 10 days.

When your cycles first come back it's really normal to have a shorter LP for the first few. I've been charting and breastfeeding (or pregnant/both as I tandem nurse!) for around six years or so, and I find my LP gets longer and longer the less DC3 (19 months) feeds (from 10/11 days up to 13 days at the moment with 3 to 4 feeds a day). I've conceived a take home baby with a 9 day LP before.

Some stuff can help some women with LP length, such as B6, Agnus Castus, Maca powder, soy and probably some others but don't use them all at once as some of them counteract each other, and do your research first. There's a lot of conflicting information out there and it's all about how you feel about "risk". B6 is pretty safe though, and you can take it with anything, just not in serious excess.
