How long did it take you to fall pregnant?

I fell pg in march, ended in mmc at 9 weeks. Have been TTC since but my "d"sis has made a comment behind my back that my weight is preventing me getting pg as quickly as I did with dd and also baby I mc'd.

So, If your bmi is 30 (ish) how long did it take you? (If there are no other issues regarding getting pg)

Yea it will but some ladies hide certain topics so conception topics may not appear.

My bmi is higher than yours, I've been pregnant 5 times. Each time I fell the first month. Fat people can get pregnant as well Grin. I'm one of them. I have two friends who are perfectly formed and they each took almost 2 years.

My BMI is 31 now and 30 last time and got pg in 4th month of trying both times. Colleague got preg accidentally and jsut gave birth safelyand her BMI must be 40+... DSis could do with keeping her 'insights' to herself and purchasing the Ladybird Book on empathy, methinks...

Mine was 30 when I got pg with boy3. It was 8wks after popping boy2 out. And I was eating loads of cake, choc and sweets at the time.

Tell your sister to give her head a wobble Wink

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

Although I hope it won't come to this, it's worth knowing that if your BMI is over 30 then some PCTs won't give you fertility treatment.
Mine is 30 and it's been a fight to get a referral.

Good luck.

Funny thing is she was actually same weight as me until she started ww few months ago and has done really well.

I get really sick when pg so will be losing weight that way... Much easier!

Actually your sister is a bit out of date with the medical research on this....

Drs used to believe that being overweight increased the levels of certain hormones in the body that then threw off the cycle and made it more difficult to get pregnant.

They believed this as they had statistics to prove that being overweight did increase the amount of time it took to conceive.

However, this was a classic case of assuming a cause and affect relationship between two things rather than checking whether there wasn't another factor causing both these things.

A big recent study to check whether the science was right found that the rate and quality of ovulation was not afffected by obesity, and did not change when the women in the study lost weight .

It found instead that as women lost weight, and felt more confident about themselves, they tended to have sex more and therefore fall pregnant more quickly.

This research was carried out by Penn State College of Medicine and was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism....

So basically it turns out that it is feeling bad about your weight which leads to less sex which leads to less chances of conceiving. When you do have sex the chances of conceiving are the same when overweight or not.

Link to article about the study if you are interested

PS posted this stuff as your sister obviously fancies herself as a bit of an expert, so you can throw this at her next time she says something unhelpful, or alternatively, you could just tell her to shut up instead. She doesn't sound that supportive.

I have a BMI of 36 and it took 20 months for us to get pregnant.

Don't think it was anything to do with my BMI in the end though!
