Not personally, but I several friends and a lovely niece that have.

My niece tried for four years and is now 30 weeks.

Have you had tests?

Jammia I get pregnant with my first after trying for 2 years I was 34 when I conceived, I did have investigations into why I wasn't getting pregnant and two weeks after I had the my operation I was pregnant. With my second I was told my husband was infertile hence a very shocked gynaecologist when we told him I was pregnant. Fingers crossed for you.

Obviously everyone is different, and you may find it useful to have some tests done on you and DH? but yes, it is certainly possible. I got pg with wonderful DS when I was 41, 2 years after a miscarriage. I'd had a haemmorhaged ovarian cyst in between, which probably hadn't helped (or my age!).
Good luck.

Yes, after 8 years ttc with ds1. Happened just as we were about to start IUI. I was 35.

The, bizarrely, dc2 was conceived the first month of trying and dc3 when we weren't trying at all.

Yes me. I conceived DS as an accident, then had a m/c first month of TTC again. Then I took 3 years to fall pg again and had DD1. Then TTC for 18 months and had DD2.

I know lots of people who have taken this long (and longer) to fall pregnant.

if you havent started the investigations yet then you should as there will be lots of issues to rule out- or could be fixable.
i have been ttc one year and recently found out i am hypothyroid which is probably the reason. i am v hopeful that a few months of thyroxin drugs will sort me out.

thanks everyone. I had a lap and die back in Feb which showed a blocked tube. my husband has been tested and he is fine.

I have a little boy age 3 and got pregnant very easy and quick with him then again when he was one but sadly lost my baby and that was 2 years ago and since then nothing at all.

I suspect an infection around my mc caused damage to my tube and although the other one was not blocked I have concerns and also a short luteal phase and low protesterone but my hospital has refused clomid or progesterone :(

got an appt again at hospital and will probably have to decide what to do as that is 2 years of solid trying!

thanks again for responses it has given me a bit of hope.

Yes. After 3 years I had a MMC, and after 6 years ttc I had DD3. I had totally given up by the time I got pregnant, and had given away all my baby stuff. Next month, bam.

if you dont mind my asking op why has hospital refused clomid or progrsterone?

Report
jammia · 11/10/2012 19:28

hi. consultant said that chances be the same with or without clomid so wouldn't prescribe it. I was willing to try anything.

progesterone also refused as 21 day blood tests been about 29.6, never over 30 although last one only 26 (after a monitored cycle so dates correct) so might ask again?

:(

Jammia - our stories are quite similar. Although I don't have a good news story to share at the moment. I don't have any childen.

I have been ttc for 30 months and conceived easily the first month we tried but mc at 5.5 weeks. Since then nothing - including 1 IVF BFN and 1 IVF FET BFN. I too have partially blocked tubes - hydrosalpinx has been mentioned but no consistent evidence of this (and I don't think I believe this is the case) . You are the only other person who I have seen mention infection from mc as their cause of tubal damage. Dr's said this may be the cause of my tubal damage too.

I have negative chlamydia / infections screening and no symptoms of endometriosis which are usually the causes of tubal damage. However at the time of the mc I didn't have signs or symptoms of infection / problems at all. I have always been very perplexed by all of this - I conceived easily and then nothing after the mc except some tubal issues found. To be honest I don't think I have ever come to terms with it all. Jammia - do you mind me asking what happened with your mc which makes you think it damaged your tubes? I'm trying to see if I missed something which may have caused me problems. Because I was only 5.5 weeks, they naver scanned me or anything despite me telling the midwife I passed a 'sac' thing nearly the size of my palm.

The only tip I have is to consider maya abdominal massage as this can help to re-align internal structures and help the tubes move gunk through. I have had it and enjoyed it. However I still find myself in IVF treatment, unfortunatly even that doesn't seem to be working for me.

I see you have some other issues too. I think it is appaulling that they won't offer clomid or progesterone. Could you go private? Thanks Sarlat

We conceived exactly two years after we started trying. Had just started down the road of fertility treatment. Had done one round of clomid and Hcg injection and was being scanned midcycle, was told it appeared that I had a hydrosalpinx and would need a lap and dye and most likely would need that tube snipped off. Stopped doing clomid while we waited for appointment for lap. Found out two cycles later I was pregnant. Already have a four year old ds.
