Preparing to TTC

Hi everyone, My husband and I have decided to start TTC at Christmas so I'm now getting ready to prepare myself for that! I've recently lost about a stone and want to lose a little more to be right in the middle of my healthy BMI. I've also started reducing my anti anxiety meds so that I will be completely off them by December. Is anyone else in the same boat? Are you planning to start TTC soon? Let's start chatting babies and healthy eating so we can be happy, healthy and ready together!! Gerbera08 xxx

Hi there, I am in the same boat! We will be TTC Oct/Nov.
Currently I'm trying to lose weight, I've got to get rid of a stone to bring me into the healthy range, but like you want to lose more. Im sorting out my drinking and eating habits, and doing more exercise. I dont think i'm really unhealthy, but i gave up smoking a year or so ago and weight has definately crept on and stuck since then. Plus I'm on school holidays at the moment which makes it easier to indulge.
I am trying to get the hang of montioring my ovulation and cycles. Something I now realise I have woefully poor knowledge of.
I see pregnant women and babies everywhere at the moment, I worry I'm becoming obsessed!

Haha! Me too!! My Facebook feed is filled with various women's uteruses!! I also think I may be obsessed!! Sooooooo excited for that to be me!!

I'm on school holidays too! What do you teach? I'm secondary English. I must admit I am quite looking forward to going back just to stop me eating constantly! I'm doing weight watchers at the moment and haven't lost a single pound since the beginning of the holidays! Although I haven't gained either so I suppose that isn't too bad!!

I'm just eating to grips with my cycles too! It's a complicated business isn't it?

Hi there. I came off the pill a week ago so I guess I'm technically already TTC although trying not to think about it as still waiting for first AF to arrive (didn't get it whilst on pill) and know things may take a while to settle down.
I'm also on school hols! I teach secondary MFL and was really good with the diet and exercise for the first 2 weeks of the hols. Spent the last 2 weeks in Greece tho so all that kind of went out the window oops! Have also been taking pre-pregnancy vitamins for the past month or so. Trying hard not to become obsessed but it's so hard - especially with so much free time to think about it!
Hope the healthy eating/exercise is going well for you both!

I'm primary. I've got the nursery class at moment, so Autumn1 will mainly be settling. I love the holidays but eating healthily is so much easier term time. Like you, my weight has stayed the same over the hols. I eat healthily for a few days, but then come the weekend when the husband is around we eat out/ have friends out etc and undo all my good work. I live a much quieter life when working! The only problem is that in nursery my lunch break is at the ridiculous time of 11:30! I am starving when I leave school and snack, but this term I'll stock up on fruit rather than junk. I think i might join weight watchers too.

I bought myself a clear blue fertility monitor. It was about £60 and you have to buy test sticks on top of that but they seem to get good reviews. Its important to me to know that I am ovulating, and also when, so looks like one of the easiest and most accurate way of doing this. I,m going to start testing next cycle. Told you I was obsessed!

I keep on thinking how great it would be to conceive a baby at Christmas as it fits in perfectly with maternity and the school year! Not that it will happen like that of course, but I am naively optimist!

Hi happylass - I somehow managed to miss your post. I agree, the free time is a killer when it comes to obsessing. I hope to be generally saner come September!

Hi All,

We're about to start ttc no 2 (DD is 2 years 2 months). Can I join? Nervous as all get out as had missed miscarriage before DD and am going to be 40 in April, plus periods have been irregular since DD was born (23 - 28 day cycle, used to be 28 days on the nail). Fingers crossed for us all!!!

Hi all! We are planning to start ttc at the start of November and I too am trying to loose weight. I registered at a new docs recently and mentioned we were thinking of starting ttc later in the year. She said start taking folic acid now. Should I really start taking it this early? I was thinking just a month before?

Hello all,

Can I join your group? I'm coming off the pill in 2 weeks to TTC. I also need to lose some weight. Doing WW too, 5 lbs down so far, need to lose another 16 to be at healthy BMI (that's so depressing when I write it down like that!). I have a wedding to attend this weekend and then I'm off the alcohol to try and step up the weight shifting and be healthier for TTC. I don't smoke.
I've started taking folic acid. My doc told me that while it's good to take it advance not to stress too much about it but that it was VERY important to make sure I took it for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Here's hoping that's not too far away!

Im off the booze in September! The inlaws are coming round on Saturday and we have a friends birthday lunch on Sunday, then are going to the coast for the last weekend of the holidays on the 30th. I'll stick to my healthy eating on week days/ indulgent at the weekend until after then. Then the new regime starts in full!
I have folic acid which I take when I remember. Again, I will step up and do better come September!

Yay!!! There are lots of us now! Everyone is welcome to our group!!

I've come into school to do planning for next year today. This has been amazing for my diet as there is literally nothing here to eat!! I've got ww tomorrow though and I don't think I'll have lost anything again!!

Good luck everyone is is starting TTC in the next month! Christmas still feels like ages away but once I'm back at school I am sure it will fly by! I don't think I'm going to buy any ovulation monitors yet. I will see how we go for a couple of months and then if nothing maybe I will buy one. My periods are a bit all over the place ranging for 30-42 days but I can usually work out when I'm ovulating by looking at discharge (eeeek tmi!!)

I would also love a baby due in autumn term 2013- as it would make maternity leave perfect!

I'm so excited for us all! It feels so real now!! Lionsntigers... Do you have any words of wisdom from last time?

The doctor said to start taking folic acid and vitamin d from now... But often forget!! He also said to keep doing exercise 3 times a week as it will make the pregnancy easier if I keep fit.

Xxx

Fingers crossed for BFPs for us all Smile

Gerbera08 how perfect would an Autumn Term baby be for you... amazing!

I have a normal office job, so for me, I'd love a BFP sooner rather than later so that I could avoid commuting on the tube in the hottest part of the summer next yr during the last months of pregnancy. It's hard enough when the only thing in my tummy is food! Grin

Think coming off the pill is doing wonders for my weight as feeling so nauseous and generally rubbish that I haven't eaten a thing all day Sad

Yet another post from me - I seem to be taking over this thread. In my defence I have been staying at my grandads for a few days and I am (sorry Gramps!) quite bored. It is raining outside and he is waching real rescues.

I didn't get that far with Cervical mucus. Then I panicked and bought the monitor. I think I mainly want proof that I do ovulate. Temping sound quite good but you have to take it at the same time every day, and I really don't want to be getting up at 5:30 on weekends! If there is a way to avoid it I will! My cycle is every 29 days, but I have no idea when or if I am fertile.

So, I'll introduce myself properly...
I am 31, a nursery teacher. I've been with dh for 11 years. I harbour fantasises of dh transferring to his companies Edinburgh office once we have a child and living in a house by the beach at portobello with the sprog and a dog, but we currently live in a maisonette in a so-so part of North London. I like cooking, eating, good wine, books and swimming. I plan to replace the wine hobby with jigsaws or something equally wholesome.

Gosh you all sound like you are being very technical with your cycles etc. I have never really kept a track of mine.
I did buy a box of folic acid so maybe I should get stuck in to it. I gave up the booze three weeks ago and I think I feel better for it.

MrsMustard Your dream of living at the beach sounds idyllic!

I am 24, have been married to DH for a year in Nov. I work in an office but can't wait to become a Mum, give up my job and become a Farmers wife! We said quite soon after getting married last year that we would start ttc on our anniversary without any fuss or big discussions. However a couple of months ago I started to feel that I was more than ready to start ttc, DH on the other hand was not. But......only two nights ago DH said that he had been thinking and he is really keen to start going for it! I think we will still stick to our November start! Need to finish that last box of condoms!

MrsMustard good idea to do introductions!!

I am 27 (28 in 3 weeks time) and have been married to dh for 4 years. We've been together for 11 and a half years. I am a secondary English teacher. I love reading, chocolate, cooking- particularly baking- and exercising ( currently love Body Attack and Body Step classes). Lots of my friends have already got babies but hubby has not been as keen as me to get started! We agreed December 2012 about a year ago and hubby does seem to be getting excited now we're getting closer. Grin

I am. Probably November time. Not making a huge effort to change my habits apart from taking folic acid. Been taking for a few weeks since getting my implant taken out and the doctor said three months before getting pregnant and three months after is when I should be taking folic acid.

Joining the 'just shagging' thread as can't be bothered with sticks, monitors, etc. We've got the luxury of time though. Smile

Wow, loads of people have joined. Second countrybumpkin on envying MrsMustard's dream. Gerbera, no wisdom as such I'm afraid! I think we took it too seriously and were too worried last time so as this is sure to be our last go round, I want to really enjoy it this time. I used the ovulation predictor kit and I did actually find it a help because on cycles where I didn't fall pregnant I found it reassuring to know I'd ovulated. I also took a pre-conception vitamin which had a lot of b12 (or was it b6? brain gone but definitely one of the Bs!) because I read that that makes a difference. Maybe it did, I got pregnant on the cycle I started taking it anyway, though perhaps that was just coincidence. I guess I'll use both of these again, but try not to get too angsty (though watch this space for me eating those words soon I guess :-D )

Intros- great idea! I'm 39, I'm a lecturer & I live in the north. I've got 2 idiot dogs, one lovely DD, and a bad horse riding habit.

Hi - Im 38 and looking to TTC#2 in December - I have a son who is 2 in November and am hoping will have left a large enough gap to allow him to adjust well to a new arrival.

Bit anxious about my age and my periods have become irregular too since my forst baby - I used to be 27 without fail and am now usually 23-25 days (have been tracking my periods since it came back after BF) - is that normal does anyone know (that it flucctuating when it didnt use to I mean).

I started taking folic acid from 1 July Country bumpkin as was told anythign from 6 months before is helpful.

Not a teacher though - can I still join?!

Report
countrybumpkin2 · 22/08/2012 14:56

Thanks SpanishLady will start the folic acid tomorrow. That will give me just under three months before we start ttc. Don't worry I am not a teacher either!
