I had my mirena removed on 25/06/2012 to ttc dc4. Anyone else out there trying to conceive post-mirena? I'm getting very fed up of the stop/start bleeding that I'm having despite this morning's positive OPK Confused

Hi, I had a mirena for 4 years and had it removed at the end of January. Waited for a full cycle before ttc as apparently there's a higher risk of mc directly after removal (think the womb lining is too thin at that stage?)

Anyway, fell pg on cycle #3 of ttc which I guess is on the quick side even without mirena.

Hope everything works out for you - good luck.

Thanks for that encouragement. The Internet is full of horror stories that are not helping me to relax about ttc!

I had mine out in January and did not have a bleed until a couple of weeks later. My cycle regulated pretty quickly and we started SWI in March, I got pregnant in May but sadly MC at 6w so now back chasing a BFP.

I didn't have a single day of bleeding for the 4 years it was in and so this monthly cycle is a shock to the system!

I had the mirena in for 4 years, had it removed (was surprised how easy it was to come out, didn't feel a thing!) waited for one cycle before TTC, one cycle with no joy, then got pg the next month. After such a long time without a period (I'd been on depo previously) the 2 that I had were a massive shock and I thoroughly hated them, I was so lucky that I only had to endure 2!

Had mine out 29-05-12 after about 2/3 years (cant remember exactly) no bleeds whilst on it. had a normal bleed 7 days later. Had withdrawal symptems all month (sickness etc) 28 days after 1st bleed had the heaviest bleed I've ever had, So TTC #3 this cycle. (also aiming for a boy) good luck everyone.

Well, it took two weeks for the bleeding to stop and now I'm waiting for this cycle to end so I know what it's going to be like post-mirena. I've had an erratic cycle in the past. I'm playing the waiting game now until ttc can start in ernest...

So, it's been a few months and I thought that I should come back and update. It would be great if others do the same because it seems difficult to get a range of views about post-mirena TTC.

My first four cycles were 23 days, 29 days, 27 days and 25 days long. It became apparent that I was ovulating quite late on in my cycle and only had a luteal phase of 7-9 days. I did a bit of digging around about a short luteal phase and decided to try high strength vit B6 as it can help. I read that some women have good effect from 50mg daily and others need 100mg. I also heard that B6 is better absorbed with other B vits so DH got me a B100 complex from Holland and Barrett that is a slow release one to help absorption. There is also some evidence that mirena (like lots of other hormonal birth control methods) uses up a lot of vit B 6 so it's not unusual to end up with a short luteal phase afterwards. I have had been very deficient in the past and all of a sudden realised that I had the same symptoms again.

I also read that vitamin D is important for oestrogen production and that there may be some links between vit D deficiency and poor implantation and early miscarriage. Pregnancy and BFing deplete vit D so I wouldn't be surprised if I were deficient having done a 5.6 year stint of pregnancy and BFing for our 3DC.

Anyway, the upshot is I am now on cycle 5, 11 dpo and got a BFP this morning! I've only been taking the vits from CD2 but I am pregnant! Now I just have to hope for a sticky bean Smile I should add that all of my other pregnancies have been conceived on cycle one but, obviously, I have no proof that it took 5 cycles because of mirena.

Hi roomforalittleone congratulations! fx for a sticky bean.
how odd that you got bfp on 5th cycle, I did too! 3 cycles were 28 days long, one was 29. Was taking pre-conception multi-vits. Bfp on the 5th cycle, which was quicker than my previous pgs, (and only one where I've been on the coil).
