Hello all

This is my very first thread so please be patient with me!

I have a question about thrush, such a delightful topic I know. My husband and I have just started TTC the last few weeks. Unfortunately I have been unwell and needed antibiotics which had charmingly left me with a really bad case of thrush. The same day my symptoms came out husband also had symptoms, poor chap, how he loves me.Treated us both with canesten cream, mine didn't improve, took capsule on sunday and pessary yesterday (weds). We are both still using cream. Today mine is much better. I'm just wondering if anyone knows how long you are supposed to wait when you have treated it before having sex? I know you need to use creams for several days after symptoms go away to make sure it's really gone. Don't want to re-infect each other if that makes sense. God life is glamorous at times!!

Any advice much appreciated, thanks!

Forgot to add the main part of why I'm posting in this topic - argh! is thrush treatment ok while TTC as I read in the leaflet it' not ok in pregnancy or if trying to become pregnant. If not how long should we wait until TTC again.

Sorry...

Hi there - I sympathise! I suffer from thrush on and off too. Definitely don't take the oral capsule while ttc - it can cause foetal abnormalities according to my GP. The other treatments are fine. Good idea to get you OH to use the cream too. I would recommend live probiotic yoghurt and cutting down or cutting out sugar as well. The good news is that apparently thrush doesn't cause any problems with conception (apart from making you not feel on the mood). HTH - and good luck.

Thanks Shred!

Really appreciate your response. I did take the capsule although am positive I'm not pregnant this month as had only just had my period and hadn't DTD since if that makes sense. Do you know how long I need to wait for the capsule to leave my system before we can start trying again? Sorry for all the questions, it's doing my head in and can't find any answers on google (also know that google is not a good idea in general so am trying to limit myself!) Also medication packaging is vague in terms of treatment times.

Will get some yoghurt and look at extra dietary changes too - thanks for your suggestions.

Also, as a someone who gets thrush all the time, I recommend eating live yoghurt as well as applying it topically. Made a huge difference with me.

150 mg as one off is deemed low dose 1 study showed no increase in abnormalities. Abnormalities were seen in those taking 400mg for a time. Elimination is variable but between 6 and 9 days so you should be ok next cycle
