hi
I'm winding myself up in knots here
normal cycle length is 28-31 days
I never ever OV before day 20
have concieved twice before, one very early MC and one DS, both times were from one single episode of less than carefulness not lengthy TTC processes.

Now TTCing no 2, +ive OPK on day 22 (normal enough for me). I'm on day 30, no sign of AF, had some blood streaked CM a few days ago which then returned to normal CM and I had myself convince that it was implantation and have been testing (crazy early I know, v naughty and using up all my cheapos!) and it's all -ive

I had thought tthat the only issues with my late OVing would be:

  1. I'ld have to wait another week after AF was due till there'ld be enough hCG to confirm a pregnancy with a test
  2. that it's difficult to differentiate implantation from AF as implantation would occur roughly when AF would not a week before like "normal" people
  3. and finally that you need to fight the MW to get your dates corrected so that your not induced too early or let go to far over due and so that your tests and scans are at the right time

  • nothing major basically!

but now I googled and it seems that even if I conceive it'll be a crap quality pregnancy that'll probably fail! Shock and I need to be medicated

help, does anyone else have a short L phase with a normal length cycle and what have your experiences been?

Hi there - yes sounds like we're in the same boat. I also have an LP that ranges between 9 & 11 days, when we were TTC DS I often ov'd around CD20. In fact the month we conceived DS I ov'd on CD24.

I also had a MC but it wasn't until I was 10 weeks and I have one DS. Difference with us is with the mc I conceived our first month trying but DS took about 7 months of trying.

How are you monitoring your cycle? I temped throughout ttc for DS and just started again as we're ttc for #2.

I think though that you shouldn't worry about mc if you're pregnant now. You've had a previous healthy baby so that definitely counts for something. Whenever I've been pregnant I've known before my missed period because I didn't have any spotting - which I usually do have a few days before my period starts. When I was pg, I tested at 10dpo and bfn but got a bfp at 12dpo, so I didn't have to wait any longer than a person with a "normal" LP would. And, yes, it's hard to get gps and midwives to understand that you ov late in your cycle. With mine, I had had early scans both times around so I just went with those dates.

Don't want to get our hopes up but sounds like you could've had implantation spotting, so fingers crossed for you :)

Yep, short lp here too, although I have ridiculously short cycles too. Normally ov between CD12 and CD14, and lp between 7 & 9 days. I take vitamin B6 and it seems to have sorted out some other issues I have (migraines, PMT) but not the short lp really.

I have one DC (2yo), and prior to her conception I had an early mc. I didn't have any problems conceiving with either, but this time round I ended up at a fertility clinic for further investigation.

I had all the tests (results fine apart from AMH levels are very low, means I have very low egg reserves for my age) and was due to see a consultant this month. However, I've only gone and got pregnant naturally so it's obviously been postponed indefinitely!

The thing is, I think short lps probably don't affect your chances of pregnancy unless it's linked to something else. In my case it was clearly down to low egg reserves and egg quality - when you're 35 I suppose it's only to be expected.

I know it's difficult, but try to not dwell on it, and maybe if things are still the same in a couple of days, test again. I used a FR on the day my period was due, and got an incredibly strong line - even allowing for the fact that I ovulated early that month that was quite something. Didn't even think I was pregnant, I just took the test to be sure I could happily get very drunk that night!

Fingers crossed for you, hope you get that BFP!

Interesting scrambled and congrats on your bfp!! :) I also meant to say that I had testing done when ttc for DS and all came back normal as well. And that happened to be the month I got pg too - so clearly getting tested is the answer Wink

ouch! DS1 just body-dropped on my groin/bladder area Confused another thing to worry about!

thanks for your replies. I usually count AF as first day of PROPER bleeding and have a few days of spotting before, but once I start spotting it doesn't go back to normal CM so that is why I thought that this time I could be implantation, so on a normal month, while my period would be due to start yesterday, today or tomorrow, I'ld have spotting by now.

With DS1 the implantation bleed was more substantial so I thought it was a period, I'd done a FR that month (can't remember why?) and it was negative and got a positive after the bleed with a normal cheapo because I had a lot of early symptoms so did one to rule it out.

If today is period due day and it's only a weekish since OV I'm assuming that my test day is NEXT wednesday? (not that that's stopping me for POAS - I'm running out!)

am not symptomatic other than that streaking and abnormal CM and no sign period yet. Just sensitive boobs which could be AF. Am not wiped out and bed bound like prior to BFP with DS (thought I had a deadly virus or something Grin)

now stressing about the weight of the pre-schooler that landed on my uterus area, which at least is taking my mind of the LP issue for now Grin
