OPKs can lie

Just wanted to share that I've had one month on clomid as I haven't been ovulating. I got a smiley face on an OP stick on day 9 which made sense as my normal cycle is around 24/25 ,and then I randomly tested again on day 20 as I felt a bit like I had EWCM and I got another smiley face!
Very odd...

Anyway, today is day 25, still no AF but had the blood tests back and I didn't ovulate.

So no ovulation yet 2 positive OP sticks

Am never buying one again

Sorry to hear that you are so fed up ! The positive opk just means that your body is gearing up to ovulate and that there is a surge of LH, if does not tell you that you have ovulated. If you had been charting you most probably would not have had a temperature rise which would mean that you had not ovulated. Charting would give you some more insight as to whether you are ovulating or not without the need for scans etc. I have found toni weshler's book very good and she has website called ovusoft that has lots of info on it. I hope you get your bfp soon . x

Opks detect an LH surge. Ovulation usually follows within 36 hours. Sometimes it doesn't. They are a forecast not a guarantee sadly. They do work for some people though obviously not this time for you. They are notoriously hard to read though. I use the very cheap ones off amazon, so if they don't "work" it's not so much money pissed away.

As others have said, they don't lie as such, but they can only detect the hormone level that is there, and some people get more than one surge per cycle. For example, it's very common for ladies with PCOS to have multiple LH surges which is why sometimes these don't work for women with PCOS.

Thanks ladies
I'm aware of everything you've mentioned but was v fed up yesterday as after having tried for 2 and a half years and then found out I wasn't ovulating I got up hopes up getting a smiley face during my first month on clomid
I know they don't lie and only measure your surge etc but surely we all assume they are telling us we're about to ovulate otherwise why would so many people buy them?

Was just disappointed Sad

Sorry you are feeling low. Not everyone gets on with them. TBH I think they are best for people who are ovulating regularly and want to get to know their cycles in case they are ovulating later or earlier than they think.

I think Clomid might bugger OPKs up. I had one cycle of Clomid and was using a Clearblue Fertility Monitor. I tested every day for about 20 days and got loads of highs, but never a peak showing I had ovulated.

I must have ovulated at some point though because I am now pregnant!

Have you done a pregnancy test? A positive OPK so late in your cycle can be picking up HCG (the pregnancy hormone) and give you a smiley face.

Just a thought, if your period still hasn't arrived it might be worth doing one
