Trouble with temping

Hi
I've been temping quite casually over the last couple of months (been ttc for 3 cycles) and my temp is annoyingly consistent! It is 36.3 every day and has now been near enough the same for the past couple of weeks each morning, with a 36.4 chucked in for variety! I think I should have ovulated around last weekend so that's why I've just been doing it for the past couple of weeks. Maybe I'm not ovulating at the mo (I have suspected PCOS and came of the pill in Dec). Just wondered if anyone else has had probs with temping and how reliable it is?

Hi there,

PCOS tends to send temps all over the place so you get a chart like a mountain range. Is your thermometer working? Is it a BBT thermometer? Are you temping at the same time each morning before you move/speak/drink? It might be that you are not ovulating or that your cycles are still a bit messed up from being on the Pill but it is worth checking these things.

Your temp should start rising the day after you ovulate due to the progesterone released by the corpus luteum once the egg has popped.

I have mild PCOS and still ovulate every month and I get a clear biphasic chart - roughly two weeks of temps around the levels you describe and then a rise over a few days, about a week of high temps (usually around 36.8-36.9) then a slow fall for a few days before AF arrives.

Maybe try a new thermometer as that doesn't sound right!

Eek! Am feeling quite worried after looking at some other ovulation posts on here, seems that it is a reliable way of telling and from what I can tell I'm not ovulating. And yes it is a BBT thermometer, bought of amazon, called 'babymad'! Not sure if searching the internet is helping, keep finding different reasons I could be infertile, old infections, PCOS, etc. I guess the only thing I can do for now is try to relax! Stupid thermometer, feel like I start every day on a disappointing note! Having said that it was 36.5 today but it's too late to mean anything I think grrr!
