Is a long luteal phase a bad thing?

Hi - we struggled for many years to conceive DS. Part of the issue was my long cycle (36 days +), though I now appreciate my lack of awareness of fertile phases probably caused the first year or so of problems. Am now looking to start TTC again and have been charting on fertilityfriend.com. It looks like I have a really long luteal phase (20+ days) and am guessing this may have been the issue with the first attempt at TTC or is a result of my continuing BF. I've tried googling it but all I get is generic "luteal phase length" answers. So, can anyone tell me if a long luteal phase is a problem? Last cycle (first since DS) was 44 days and this cycle BBT looks like ovulated on day 15. Thanks.

Are you sure about your OV date? Do other signs match up with that?

I wrote you a really long reply that didnt post.

To sum it up everything I've read (which is very little as there is hardly any information re: long LP) suggest that its not a problem for conception. The problem with short LP is that it doesn't give long enough for implantation.

As you are only just getting you cycles back it could be that this one was unusually long so I think it would be worthwhile keeping a note of them and maybe using OPKs or temping so you can be sure how long your LP is.

It might be worth joining a long term thread, maybe one about charting or ttc%232 as there may be a lot of people with experience of this that will give you better advice than I can Grin

Good luck with ttc

Thanks everyone. Yes, all signs point to a long luteal phase (which explains why I was getting it so wrong when TTC DS!).
