What is more important in a man, age or fittness?

I am now TTC, my husband is older than me by more than a few years.
However he is very fit, keeps himself in great shape, with mountain climbs, runs, and the gym.
He is big built, but carries no excess fat.
A non smoker all his life, and just a pint of beer at special occassions.
However he had the snip reversal 24 months ago, after 4 childern in a previous marriage, now we have decided we want a child in our new family.
His sperm count is low, and we were thinking what else to do to raise our chances of me conceiving?
We have been having unprotected sex for the past 18 months, but sadly nothing is happening for us.
I have also never smoked, and almost no drinking at all.
We have read about the various supplements, and this leaves us confused.
We were thinking and talking about our "next step" and should it be IUI.?

If any one has recently conceived by IUI, please can you share your experiences?

Hi NatashaBee, thanks for the first reply,
I have heard about Pre-seed, but thought all lubricants were not really encouraged?
He was at the sample clinic last week, and things are still improving, but slowly..
I was with him last week when he went to the sample clinic.
An hour later we were handed the results, we then made an appointment, there and then to talk to a specialist. So we waited about 30 minutes to speak with a specialist, who explained every thing on our results sheet, in detail.
Then the specialist suggested we both come back on Monday, (this was Friday she said this) for me to have some checks done, and she mentioned checking my tubes are free, and have no restrictions.
We are both pretty sure there is no problem with me, and it's just his low sperm count.
He even suggested I start practicing head stands on the bed against the wall !!
