How many of you have a partner that smokes?

My partner had said he would give up smoking for the New Year and hasn't :( He isn't a particularly heavy smoker but my hopes were so high that he would do this for us.

How many of you still have smoking partner's and feel it is seriously affecting your ability to conceive?

How big a part do you think it really plays when a couple is ttc?

Sorry, lots of questions, just feel sad that I'm trying to do everything possible and he won't do this.

Aw, sorry to hear that, so frustrating. My dh gave up a year before ttc and earlier in 2011 we did find that the morphology wasn't great. The gp did say smoking can effect this and take a while to recover. But, dh took wellman vits and cut down the coffee and took up sports and the second SA was hugely improved. So there might be other things you can do if smoking isn't up for debate to try and tip the balance a bit. has there been an SA? also, my dh could NOT have stopped without patches, which he was on for 6 months - might these help? We aren't pregnant yet, but that lies with me at the moment. Good luck to you.

I do and it drives me mental, he also drinks too much.
He has cut down but I can't get him to quit. My problem is not getting pregnant though its keeping them in the cooker and I was quite annoyed when the docs said there was no need for the DH to do a sperm analysis as he was clearly firing swimmers Confused Confused

Hopefully my gentle encouragement constant nagging will help him

Good luck

My partner smokes and we had difficulties ttc. After the tests turned out it was me that was causing the problems........ :)

Thanks so much ladies for your replies :)

We have not yet had a SA - we were on the verge of having one when I fell pregnant last year after months of trying (sadly had mc at 13 weeks) We have been trying again ever since. I guess it can't hurt to set the wheels in motion for the test again.

I just wish giving up smoking was something he wants to do to increase our chances this time - especially as I'll be 37 next month - I'm taking supplements, eating healthily, not drinking and am not sure what else to do to compensate! grrrr.. I just feel so angry every time he pulls out a fag and I feel like blurting out 'how badly do you want a baby??' but I know this would not help :(
