We've been TTC#2 now for over a year to no avail, I've been using ovulation sticks for a few months, the first time we used them i ovulated but didn't concieve, the second month I got a bit muddled due to holidays etc etc and missed ovulation (or so I thought) then last month I used 10 ovulations sticks and didn't seem to ovulate at all.

I've bought a clear blue monitor and I've started checking again this month but if I find I don't ovulate again what options are open to me? I'm 38 so not a spring chicken. Will the doctor just say 'tough' you've got one already so make do??

The ov sticks don't work well for everyone and some people have to use them several times a day to pick up their surge so don't let that convince you that you are not ovulating.

But...at 38 as you have been trying for over a year you should really be having proper investigations. I suggest you get to your GP asap and get the ball rolling.

Hi Letting

I'm in a similar position to you in that I'm TTC DC2 for about a year, but I'm afraid I'm even older than you, now just 40... Shock Grin

I have been to the doctors and they haven't been much help but everyone here says it's your right to have infertility investigations on the NHS (but no IVF as you have a child) and I would push to have them done even if it's just to put your mind at rest. I wasn't offered much but I was offered d21 progesterone test which should tell the GP/you if you've ovulated.

BTW I use OPK sticks and do get a smiley face at the same time every month but it hasn't lead to a pregnancy yet... so there's a lot of factors to consider. You can still get the LH surge (just before ov) without actually releasing an egg. Egg quality, ovarian reserve, partner's sperm (and yes that can change over a couple of years too) - these all play their part in overall fertility.

Good luck. I conceived my first child at 37.5 in the second cycle of TTC and had a very healthy pregnancy and 6-hour birth so you really can't tell what your luck will bring.

Been using ovulation tests for 3 cycles now and havent had a positive result yet. I have looked into it and some people never get a positive result because their hormone surge may either be too short or too weak , but doesnt mean they are not ovulating . I would go see your gp anyway but try not to worry Smile

Good luckSmileSmile
