Paratubal cyst/pre menstrual spotting/LP...anyone know anything about either please?

Hello, sorry this is really long...just today had a lap to remove one tube because of a hydrosalpinx. But when he got in there the consultant discovered it actually wasn't a hydro but a cyst - from the paperwork it looks like paratubal cyst. Now it's good news in that instead of removing the tube he removed the cyst, and the tube then appeared to be fuctioning fine. But does anyone know anything about paratubal cysts? I've never heard of it and google didn't help much at all.

The thing is, although it is good news, he also confirmed today that my other tube is and has all along been working fine. So also good news on that front. But it raises another question. Unlike a hydrosalpinx, he didn't think the cyst would be leaking or otherwise creating a hostile environment for an embryo. So it leaves me wondering why we haven't conceived...

I do also spot for anywhere between 2 and 7 days prior to my period and have heard mixed reports about whether that could cause a problem. My LP is about 10-12 days if counted from when I get my period proper; spotting can start at anything from 7 DPO. My CBFM doesnt always pick up that I've ovulated though standard bloods have suggested i do so i suspect it is the CBFM not working, rather than me! But my consultant has though agreed I try a couple of cycles of Clomid prior to seeing him again in December - if nothing else I think that should sort the spotting?

Worth noting that we've actually only been trying about ten months, though we have been doing everything at the right time! And I haven't been using any hormonal contraceptives for five years so that isn't an issue.

Any thoughts or advice on any of this would be very gratefully received. Thank you in advance.

Obviously what I'm really looking for is someone to guarantee, for sure, no question, one hundred per cent I'll be up the duff by this time next month...but anything else would be useful too!

Hello highlove
I'm afraid I know less than nothing about paratubal cysts. They do sound grim though and I'm glad you no longer own one.
What I do know about is luteal phases, spotting and Clomid! Like you, I haven't been on the pill for years (10, in fact).
We've been trying for 10 cycles now, with no joy. Because I have PCOS (I knew about that years ago) I fast-tracked all our investigations after the 6 month mark. From the off I realised that I ovulated late (typically cd 23), then started to spot anywhere from 3-5dpo afterwards, with full flow (lovely) arriving at 9-11 dpo - so in other words an 8-10 day luteal phase.
I had bloodwork done and everything on cd1 was great. In fact, I was told that I no longer have PCOS - the syndrome - just PCO - the polycystic ovaries. I was also told not to worry about my spotting or luteal phase.
However, I wasn't entirely convinced by this so I went ahead and got a private prescription for Clomid. The first cycle I took 50mg and I ovulated around day 20 and had a 10 day LP. Still spotted though - from 5dpo. Cycles 2-4 I took 100mg. The first one I Oed cd 17 and had a 11 day LP (my personal best!). Still spotted from 6dpo though. The latter two I ovulated later and had 9-10 day LPs.
I'm now going to have a couple of natural cycles - with an HSG in the next one (EEK). Then three more of the Clomid.
So - I guess what I'm saying is that I definitely saw a change in my cycles with Clomid but nothing dramatic and I'm not up the duff! Oh yeah - worth noting that I had my progesterone tested at 7dpo (when the spotting had started) and my progesterone levels were really great - so it's not a low progesterone issue.
Best of luck with whatever you decide. x

Hi mrs thanks for this.

Just a thought in your case - have you/your consultant considered endo? From what I've read pre-menstrual spotting is very often that. My consultant was specifically looking for it today but didn't find any. I didn't/don't have the other typical symptoms of endo , i.e very heavy and painful periods, but apparently you don't always.

Hope the hasn't frightened you; my consultant is an endo expert and was adamant that with the right treatment the vast majority of women with endo will get pg.

Hi highlove I fear I don't have an answer for you today, but here's my story.....TTC for 13 cycles now. Came off pill 14 cycles ago. Cycles regular, with Ovulation settled into CD12 most months. LP 14 days if you dont count the spotting. Last 4 cycles I have had spotting - quite heavy too- from 7-10DPO. I also get spotting after AF. Have always had spotting, but not for this long. Have had all initial tests, including scans and HSG. All back normal. Only thing found was a small polyp on my cervix. Day21 test gave a very strong progesterone result, which supports the high temps I get each month.
I understand that polyps can cause spotting. I have an appt with a fertility clinic next week, so will try and get some answers then. Happy to come back and tell you what I've been told, but conscious that my situation is different.

I don't know the detail of what you're talking about at all, but i had fucked up periods, very short cycle, lots of spotting, and acupuncture has sorted them out.

Hi, thanks for your responses.

Scrummy, good luck with your appt, would be interested to hear how you get on.

Alys, interesting about the acupuncture, have been thinking about that actually so will look some more. Am taking Clomid the next couple of cycles but I guess the two together might help. Can I ask how long you've been trying since everything became more regular?

Thanks all x

Oh I've not Highlove. All scheduled in for Jan though Grin
I had a generally fucked up cycle for years which led to all sorts of problems and the western doctors were utterly useless. So I had acupuncture for a few months, cycles then all sorted. Was amazed.

Thanks Highlove. Yeah I wondered about endo. How do they diagnose it? I've had more dates with the dildo cam than I care to remember and am having a HSG next cycle. x

Hi mrs

Diagnosis is I think usually by laparaoscopy or hysteroscopy which are both done under general. I did aute a bit research thinking this might be the cause of my spotting and I know it tends to be more common in people with regular cycles. Also more likely in people who started their periods early. HTH x

Highlove, interesting detail there about regular early starters as I can count myself as one.

Consultant wasn't at all concerned about my spotting. He thinks it might just be down to sudden drop in progesterone on those particular cycles. I'll have another blood test to confirm my levels in a week or so, confirming where I am hormone wise.
