Any thoughts on acupuncture I'm a little unsure but was considering it

Hi pinkapples

Well I've got my first one next Saturday so I'll keep you updated! I've heard good things on here and in rl about it. I'm obviously hoping that it'll help get me pregnant, but at least help with a very messed up cycle. The acupuncturist I'm seeing is a fertility specialist - she's actually a midwife - so I feel like I'll be in good hands.

I have had 4 sessions now following a miscarriage. I do feel as though it is definitely helping! smile My cycles were very messed up and my pre m/c ovulation date of CD17 was nowhere to be seen! I was having CD12 and CD19 ovulation dates which is really irregular but this month ov'd on CD17 again! smile. My acupuncturist doesn't see why I won't get pregnant (despite my age - 39) which makes me feel a bit better. He works with a lot of women having IVF. He has been working on increasing the blood flow to my uterus, regulating my cycles and general de-stressing! I do find it very relaxing and not at all painful. Once the needles are in he puts a warm lamp over me and lets me chill out for half an hour!

I've been having it for about 6 months. My acupuncturist specialises in fertility issues.

I am not pregnant yet but I am surprised at how tangible the changes to my cycle have been. Since starting the acu, it is more regular, my ovulation has moved earlier in the cycle, my flow is less clotty and my luteal phase has lengthened by a couple of days.

I am not a "woo" person and I was pretty sceptical but started it because I wanted to feel like I was doing something while waiting for my NHS gynae referral. I have kept it up because the results are noticeable.

I also like the fact that I have someone knowledgeable about fertility issues with whom I can discuss my cycle, possible treatments, concerns, etc. NHS appointments are always so rushed and you don't always see the same person more than once. I like having someone who is getting to know me and my issues.

If you search through some of the other threads on here, you will see that a lot of people have tried it.

I discovered I have pcos following a mc and after following a low gi diet since may my skin was still bad and I only ovulated once on cd42. have had 3 sessions so far and just about to ovulate on cd25 which is a record for me. Interesting I saw her on cd21 and said that my body wasn't working still. about 3 hours after the session got ewcm and then a positive opk 2 days after that - not sure if it is coincidence or related to taking soy isolfavones this month but something seems to be going right. Also my skin is the best it has been since stopping the pill at the end of last year! So I am sticking with the acupuncture for now!

I have pcos to and have not ovulated in the last 11 years hmmm.. Been on clomid for a year no joy and starting injectable hormones next month may have to give it a go I feel

Where are you based pink? Somebody might be able to recommended an acupuncturist for you?

InTheSunshine Sun 18-Sep-11 16:10:21

Pink I've been having the needles for a year now. She's lengthened my cycles, kick started ovulation, sorted out my IBS and like Euro said it's great to have someone knowledgable to discuss my fertility issues with. I'd recommend finding someone who specialises in acupuncture for fertility. Good luck.

Think I will bite the bullet and go have a chat with the woman in the acupuncturist

AngelFairy Wed 21-Sep-11 08:31:20

Hi Pink

Like the other ladies, acupuncture has helped me lots. It's regulated my cycle to 28days and helps with my stress and IBS. I highly recommend it.
However, ensure you have British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) accredited practitioner x

Have bitten the bullet and have a consultation tomorrow (free of charge woohoo) with a Chinese herbalist place in my town. They do all kinds of therapies so should be able to help

TheLittleFriend Sat 24-Sep-11 20:08:34

Hi Pink

I had my first acupuncture appointment today and found it to be really positive. Lots of questions and talk to start with, about all kinds of things. It was a bit like a counselling session! Then a treatment (which was not at all painful) for about 25 mins. The woman who did it was great, and seemed sure she could help.

I hope you find someone who can help you too, best of luck.

I've just had my first 14 day LP (usually 10 days) after 2 months of acupuncture! No bfp but it's a step in the right direction!

pebspop Mon 26-Sep-11 13:11:57

i went to acupuncture on saturday as i hadn't had af for 12 weeks. af came yesterday!

not sure if it's coincedence or nor but it's good for me. i am going to carry on going for the next 6 weeks and see what happens.

pinkapples Mon 26-Sep-11 20:29:36

Are your acupuncturists Chinese or British?

cheeseandmarmitesandwich Mon 26-Sep-11 20:37:01

It worked for me but I would really recommend going to someone who specialises in fertility. Get recommendations if you can. I have pcos and spent months having acupuncture with no effect on my periods whatsoever. I gave up, then a few months later went to a specialist natural fertility clinic in Cardiff and within a month I was pregnant. Coincidence? Maybe, who know?!
